Default Is 2006 C6ZO6 CAN (J1979) protocol compliant

I have a 2006 ZO6 and my friend has a shift light that plugs into the OBD II port that says it must be CAN J1979 compatible. It is really nice at the track as he does not need to be staring at the tach all of the time.

Are the 2006 Z's wired to the J1979 standard so that I can use this shift light?

Thanks.

I have no clue - but the best way to find out is to just try it.

I do not want to spend $160 for a shift light and then have it not usable.

The OBD II port reads RPM so Id think it would work.

This shift light reads what gear the car is in and the RPM and you can adjust the shift point for each gear if needed.

It is the Speedhut SST Max shift light.

Our cars computer has no way of knowing what gear it is in, so maybe not, dont really see the need to shift at different RPMs in different gears though. Dallas Performance makes a "boost by gear" unit that has microswitches on it indicate the gear when engaged but thats the only thing I am aware for our cars that has that ability.

Can't you just borrow your friend's shift light? Or is it not that easy to switch between cars?

If pins 5, 6, 14 and 16 are populated, the vehicle supports CAN
