[Z06] What’s the pro’s and con’s to coil overs on a street car?

I've had the DRM shocks before the coils, and they are an excellent upgrade from stock on the street that won't break the bank like coilovers. Should have stuck with them and gone to Hawaii! LOL!!

I have DRM's on the car now, and the car is lowered as far as I want.....
Back to my original rationale to why I'm considering coilovers, is to get access to the oil pan, and to have an adjustable ride.
I like the idea to go to Hawaii..... I do go there from time to time already.
Thanks for the tips on a couple points mentioned. Sounds like the only disadvantage is cost and long time for replacement parts, should that ever be needed.

on my 2006 there are no issues as all. Not sure on 2008 and up with the more optional fancy setup. I think for the people with magnetic ride you would have to get a little module that emulates the shocks.

I cant really do an exact comparison of ride coming from a c5 z with T1 sway bars and leafs to a c6 z with coil-overs but i can tell you if i ever get another corvette ill be doing coil-overs to it. The adaptability factor alone is worth it IMO. Even if all the leaf spring fanboys tell you that you don't even come close to reaching the performance potential with leafs, the easy ride height adjust-ability and better street driving and handling characteristics, if you have the extra cash its worth it.
FYI I'm running MTI Penske coilovers without the remote reservoir. You cannot go wrong with MTI or LG i've spoken to both companies on the phone and their customer support and knowledge is outstanding. LG even helped me out with a question about MTI's product after hours when I couldnt get ahold of MTI. (no hit on MTI it was past 6:15 at night)

So what kind of money are we talking about anyway? I have not looked all that closely yet. Maybe entry level to peak, keeping in mind the adjustability function?

MTI Bilstein coilovers - 2194.95
Moton - 4859.95
MTI Penske - 3994.95
LG G2 kit - 2395
LG GT2 kit - 1995
LG GT2 coilover + sway bar package - 2695
As far as the major differences in all of them, someone else will have to chime in.

Well that's not THAT bad.... Heck, I was thinking 5K and up the way some folks are taking about how expensive they are.... Crap, I just blew two grand on rocker arms.
This is sounding better all the time. I do however have some other things that take priority, like some paint work and a vented hood, seats and stereo upgrades.

here is my take...trying to make a street car a track car and visa versa is not the way to go....a z06 that is set up for really good track manners is terrible on the street. a really well set up street car is not so good on track. dual purpose just doesn't do either well. for street drm bilstiens, for track good coil overs.
everyones opinion of good is different, but those who truly track their cars know exactly what i am talking about.

^ I respectfully disagree...I feel that my Z06 is an excellent dual purpose car for the street and track. The fact that it has adjustable coilovers and sway bars just proves it. Why? Yes, my coils do have softer and shorter springs which gives it the nice ride on the street. Dampening adjustments along with increasing camber on the R compounds makes it an excellent track weapon.
Choose your coils carefully...IMO...the LG G2s are the way to go. Install them and don't worry about them. Just make sure you get them built exactly the way you need them to be...not the way you want them to be 1-2 times a year.
Hawaii is nice too....
