Z06 is a SuperCar
Today a buddy of mine (after driving my Z yesterday) ran out and purchased a 2010 Camaro SS. He was in love with the power of his SS... "this thing is so fast". He let me take it for a spin and that is when I realized how amazing the Z06/LS7 really are. Not only were they not in the same category... I felt like I was driving a sedan. A corner I usually take at 70MPH in the Z, I was uneasy at 50MPH in the SS. So glad I drove it, it made me really appreciate what I have in my Z... it truly is a SuperCar!

The Z06 has ridiculous performance for its price point. It truly does have supercar performance. However, I reserve the description "Supercar" for the real big boys.

I saw one today at the base hobby shop while I was putting on wheel spacer adapters. It reminds me of the movie "Twins"... the base model is Danny Devito while the Z is Schwarzenegger

#14 on the list... faster than a Zonda, Avenatador, Enzo, Carrera GT amongst others. I'm comfortable with calling it a SuperCar :-)

Numbers only don't make a car a supercar. But I hear you. Again, supercar performance at a budget price.

While the Z06 is an amazing performer by the time my ride is over I am reattaching some type of plastic or molding when its done. The shifter is rattling. The inside sounds like a sewing machine. The heat blasting through the center console from the exhaust..... I can cook an egg inside my center console. If you put your cell phone in there you could literally overheat it and kill it. Its a raw machine... but it aint no supercar.

I have to go with exclusivity and the price is what makes a super car. Super car performance, yes. a Supercar? probably not. But I don't think there is an actual formula that defines a super car.

Kinda like asking "what makes art art?". It's up to the person I think. A Gallardo may be considered a supercar until you put it up against an Mclaren P1 and then you start noticing how the Gallardo reminds you of a car from Lamborghini's parent company.... VW Bug

The out of the box performance that these cars offer is insane. I have a 96 Grand Sport that I recently bought and I love it for what it is, but the gap performance wise is beyond huge. My Z pulls at least as hard in 2nd as my GS does in 1st. Brakes feel like a pickup truck in the GS. Handling, while good is still miles apart. I had a friend in my Z recently (import guy) who I honestly believe thought we were going to wreck taking a tight Cloverleaf at 65ish mph.... i know he has always respected my car even though he would never buy one, but the look on his face was priceless when we remained planted and flat coming out of the turn.

Supercar performance? Sure.
Supercar package? Not in my eyes.
If every single body panel was carbon fiber and the interior was full on done up by Caravaggio, it still wouldn't be a supercar in my eyes. Mainly because it's still very close to a base Corvette which is mass produced and most non-enthusiast won't be able to tell the difference between a base Corvette.
Same reason that I don't really consider a Porsche 911 Turbo/GT2/GT3 a real supercar. They have the performance to back it up but it's still based on a run of the mill 911.
To me, it shouldn't be what is basically a hot-rodded version of a base model. It needs to be a completely independent model to have it's own unique identity. It needs the performance, exclusivity, build quality and be able to draw a crowd and excite everybody's emotions while sitting still. That's what a supercar is to me.
