Default LS7 valve issue results in another broken motor

Well it finally happened last Sunday - 2006 z06 dropped valve and the resulting hole in the block! 51k miles. The engine has performed extremely well with the only mod being better CAI. The oil was changed religiously using only Mobil One and AC Delco filters.

Waiting on quotes right now for another engine unless someone has one laying around they want to get rid of for a good price. Any guidance on place to get a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear of the mishap bstedman and good luck getting it back on the road.

Don't make the same mistake twice. On the rebuild as these stock valves, continue to fail and leave owners in a position such as your own.

Good luck man.

New to the Z06. I pick it up tomorrow I was noticing a lot of problems with the valves in these motors. Being this thread is about that I thought I would ask exactly where does the problem stem from no pun intended lol. Is this a spring valve or rocker problem. Love these motors

Head/valve guide/valve issue. No one really knows but I would have the heads inspected and replaced ASAP. People will argue for days/months/years about the correct fix/etc but at least get it looked at, if guide clearance is excessive (even if it isn't I would do heads) get them addressed.

OMG, I hope not. That has to be the most tired and unwelcome topic in the history of the forum. Fixers, please just leave it alone and let folks use the search function to find the things you've said countless times already, and the rebuttals that have followed. PLEASE!

To the OP, sorry to see you get bitten too. Best of luck moving forward.

I'm sorry to hear it.

These cars, love'em and hate'em. We all have better ways to spend $15K than on an replacement LS7 that gets us back to having the same car, instead of trading up to a new one with warranty. Losing.

Do the wiggle test to check the guides and let us know if possible. I am doing mine sooner than later. 07Z with 49k on the clock. Did it happen under throttle or coasting?

Sorry for your loss

I think Carrollton is just down the road or a hop skip and a jump from forum sponsor LG Motorsports, they should have a lot of connections and if it were me I'd be giving them a call.

Good luck

OP this blows (no pun) ! Sorry to hear. Since I sold my car I have not been on here in a while, was hoping to see less of this on this board but I see it's still somewhat of a regular thing here.

I will be getting back into a Z06 regardless or maybe even a GS in about another month or so.

Good luck

I'm not even waiting. Have just 3,600 miles on my 09 and having the heads done by Josh at Horsepower Addicts. Why keep driving wondering if today will be the day? Peace of mind is worth a couple bucks (relative to the cost of a new engine).

I wouldn't touch that motor. It isn't an ls7, no dry sump, 4.125 stroke, ls3 style heads, big cam, etc.

That is a 427 cube stroker wet sump motor. Not in the same class as a ls7 long block.
