[Z06] Flying Roof Z06 at the Race Track!

I am really surprised we are 8 years out and still people haven't had the recall done.

I recently purchased my Z off the 2nd owner who had the car since 07 and never did the recall. A month after my purchase I lifted a back corner up and the entire roof peeled off with fingers and about 2lbs of upward pressure! I had it repaired later that week by Mcmulkins who did a flawless job!
I wonder if someone was injured from a flying roof and since it was a recall that was not repaired if the burdon of liability would rest upon the owner for being negligent?

Im sure alot of owners might not be aware of the recall. I didnt know a thing about it until I got a post card in the mail from GM telling me so. A week later I went into my dealership and filed the claim and they ordered the roof for me which took 3 weeks to come in and it just got there last week and now its suppose to be painted Monday or Tuesday of this upcoming week and then install. Go figure....it couldnt of made it just a few more days when I was going to be replacing it anyway.....

Glad nobody got hurt. I had the same thing happen to mine at about 120 at the drag strip yrs ago. I knew about the recall but like most was busy. When I got home the 2nd reminder recall notice was in my mailbox the day it happened.

Yikes!. Did you see the car in the other lane bolt right to (possibly) avoid the panel? He almost put himself into the right side wall!

Your car must have been an early production MY2007 or older. GM switched to SMC roof skins during the early MY2007 production run around Sept 1, 2006. Until that date, the roof skins for all painted roof C6s was polycarbonate which GM eventually discovered would not stay reliably glued to the metal roof structure underneath. The only long term safe solution was the switch to SMC plastic skins hence the safety recall of the older C6s.

This brings back some memories. I had that same thing happen to me on my base model several years ago. It started making a little noise and called about it. They told me it would be fine to drive and well that wasn't the case. I had the same issue on my second C6Z also but took it in as soon as it started.
