At least Porsche does something about the problem.

So there is an issue with 0.25% of the cars and Porsche replaces them all. That is awesome.

Chevy would have issued a TSB blaming internet hysteria, and had customers bring their cars in to a dealership for an inspection. "Yep, it's not on fire, you're good to go."

As a point of interest as to how the C6 Z06 engine compares to other marques when it comes to engine issues.

Engineers discovered that the fires were caused by a loose rod inside the engine. The loose rod caused damage that then allowed lubricating oil to leak out and ignite

Don't we have the same problem

OP and another Z06 recently caught on fire while I was on track with them

And I would bet that GM has already replaced more than the 700+ that Porche is about to, not to mention how many sets of heads they are now replacing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think we have loose rods in our engines, seems to be valves caused by excessive wear on the guides and rockers.

Wonder if GM would do anything to rectify the situation if we all signed a petition. I'm sure we could get 1000 signatures in a week.

The LS7 had oil starvation problems initially (what got my '06 engine), fixed with 2009 oil tank, then rocker arms in 2007, and now head milling issues causing excessive valve guide wear. So somewhat related in that it is an internal engine QC issue vice a design issue IMO. Not sure how many LS7's have been replaced under warranty as GM is the only entity that has that number, and who knows how many have been replaced by owners out of warranty. The point is that a particular marque is willing to replace the most expensive component on its "most track capable" model based on a 0.25% failure rate to ensure its customers are completely satisfied with their product and maintain their reputation. Given what GM is facing right now with delayed recalls, you would think they would come up with a better plan of action vice the "fix'em as they break" method they are utilizing now. There were 7247 Z06's built from 2009-2013, and some of those have already been fixed by GM warranty head replacement (mine included). It seems that they could at least do complimentary valve guide inspections on these "affected" cars, but I know I'm .

There was an attempt at slight humor in my response. But the end result of bad guides is a broken valve which leads to rods flying apart and fire. I have seen it twice and was lucky mine didn't catch fire when my motor blew

Well at 10 motors a year being replaced which I think is conservative we have at least 700.

I guess this is why a Porche costs more than a Chevy.

I still like my car more

Let's see, 10 times 7 equals.... so that's how dentists make so much money

I like mine too, especially that it's the last NA Z06 with all the goodies (Z07, 3LT, and carbon package) and the most HP (2011).

I don't think GM is making on the average of $23,000 profit on every Corvette like WV is making on each Porsche they sell.

Regardless, it's not an excuse for GM, but sometimes I wonder if they still feel that 'its just a chevvy' general population belief lets them get away with things like our LS7 issues.

While I understand that Corvette is a halo car to draw people into buying other mass produced cars at a 'Chevy' dealership, I feel that it should be its own brand so that it doesn't fall under Chevy cheap customer service policies (and sold with Caddy and/or Buick). Our household includes couple of Chevy's and a Buick and it constantly amazes me how differently GM treats us on the Buick side (Fantastic!) vs Chevy side(non existent). It's as if they were completely different companies.

Very uncharacteristic of Porsche but a good thing nonetheless if true. Not sure if this is a joke or not.

Wasn't that actor dude killed in a Porsche GT3? Yikes.......Anyway it's no wonder GM won't grow a pair and own up to LS7 issues, their in trouble again with defective parts in cars.
