More FAST Porting! Results!
There's a lot of discussion wether the FAST intake is worth it or not.
Plain and simply the answer is YES. Like anything else in life, if it's done properly it will yield good results.
I originally purchased my car from another member on here that had a pretty fresh 454, big cam, WCCH 2 heads, 1.875" ARH's and heavily ported OE intake and ported stock throttle body. It pulled pretty hard. It made 565rwhp 515rwtq all SAE.
A year ago October I had my heads reported by Darin Morgan and installed a port matched FAST intake and NW 102 TB. It picked up power nicely! 604rwhp and 542rwtq all SAE, same dyno. I also installed 2" headers but those ended up being a wash actually. Biggest gain was they were ceramic coated and looked much better! My old intake was a Halltech 103 and I swapped it for a 107. I'm unsure if this gain any power alone but the air filters they both used were identical.
Well just recently my bitch ex girlfriend left me because of a dumb fight and I had a lot more time on my hands....
So.... I removed the ridges from the bottom of the runners on the FAST. I restructured them with a semi-thick bead of epoxy. I just got it back off the dyno. I now make 616rwhp and 569rwtq all SAE, same dyno. Just removing the ribs gained me ANOTHER 12hp and 27tq to the ground.
Before you shout "but you have a huge 454!"... My engine is 6% bigger than stock. Not that much bigger. Point is the FAST intake has a lot of power in it if done right.
Removed the ridge with a dremel.
Epoxy applied.
Before the ported vs after the ported on the FAST.
Ported OE intake/TB, 103 Halltech vs Ported I FAST/102, 107 Halltech.
Looks better in person.

I too believe in porting the FAST intakes... I am currently building a 414ci for my C5Z...
TEA stage 3's, ported FAST 102, and all of the goodies... Mine should be done the first week of Feb... I'll do a base tune and drive for 100 or so miles to break in new clutch. Then I am hoping for around 560-600...wheel...

Has fast introduced different length runners since commercializing the 102? It would be nice if they would manufacture several runners lengths for precise tuning!

To be honest the actual runner itself doesn't really need anything. Just match the base to the head and blend it into the runner for an inch or so.
The ridges at the bottom protrude into the plenum quite well so removing them allowed much easier airflow distribution.
I also touched up the "stand-offs" on the base a little. They protrude into the path some and I just laid them back a bit.
As you can see literally I just removed the ridge and laid down JB weld. Nothing trick but I made sure it was thick enough. The runners were still extremely ridged after I was done. JB weld is pretty strong stuff.
Beyond all that just make sure the runners line up. Since my heads were milled a bit the intake plane now droops into the runner causing turbulence. It wasn't much but a few swipes with the dremel and it was smooth to the touch.
FAST intakes are a bolt on item, but far from ideal in stock form. I've invested quite a bit of time into mine and in two separate occasions it's have me a tremendous increase. I'm beyond a firm believer in the FAST intake.

Hey Brian, what about on the top of the head intake runner where it doesn't match up, should the head be shaped a little more to create a smooth flow or does the FAST intake runner cover that up?

Lol. Same dyno at least? I appreciate the results but different dyno days come with different variables.
In the end track results mean everything. Have you baselined the car on the track before the mod?

I haven't found too many people that can always perform all their mods in 1 day.
Last dyno I did before the mods was 601/540. No point in showing it because that wasn't my best previous run and I'm not going to show my lowest as that's just skewing the numbers. A few hp and a few tq Is pretty much within the margin of error on SAE corrections on the same dyno in my experience.
If you notice I pick up massive torque everywhere, especially 50ft/lbs at 4500rpm... Peak numbers arnt huge compared to gains down low because it starts pulling a vacuum at 5500rpm and starts being choked to death. This thing needs a single plane intake, but my hood said no lol.

I hear you on doing the mods and the baseline on the same day. I have done it on other cars borrowing equipment from my friends and swapping the parts on the spot. It gives a much clearer picture. As you can tell I am not completely sold on the fast porting as I have been told by many reputable guys it doesn't do much. Your results are quite significant that is why I am asking the questions. You'll see mediocre results from people who just slap the FAST with little/no prep and don't take the time to port match IMO.
I originally purchased the intake ported from a shop and noticed there was practically nothing done to it. I took it to Darin Morgan and he did a few more things here and there, but not too much. He told me if I wanted to get as much as I could from the intake to remove all the sharp edges. So that's what I did.

Bought my fast 102 ported, but just got done doing a little more clean up on it over what was already done.
Do you have a build thread on here? I have always been impressed with your car, but have never came a post with all the specs
