Cam question?
2 months ago I found out my Z's valves guides were bad, I got the heads re-done and did some other mods (below) while I was at it.
Been driving about 2k miles since and noticing a loud ticking noise, is this normal with a cam or is it our injectors or could it possibly be the valve issue is back?
Mods:
Performance Lifters
Rocker Trunion Assembly
SS E Valves
New Bronze Guides
Titanium retainers / Dual Springs
Port / Polished Heads
Hardened Pushrods
Mild Comp Cam 112+2
AirRaid CAI
JBA LT Headers XPipe no cats
Ported TB and Intake Manifold
160 ThermoStat
and a Tune...

My car is noticeably louder now after my SS exhaust valves, cam, and headers. There is a pronounced typewritter sound and exhaust puff.
It's going to be difficult to determine if your sound is normal or indicative of a problem unless there was a way to compare the sound from when you first got the mods to today's sound. I would consider getting a wiggle test done on your valves. Also, you might want to take a look at the lifters while you're there.
Good luck!

Headers and intake will definitely let you hear the motor more if you didn't have them before. Also if you are running less lifter preload they tend to be noisier. Could be an exhaust leak.
Basically hard to help over the internet.

Headers make things sound louder.

Did the louder ticking start right after the cam install or has it gotten louder in the last 2k?
I ask because I recently had almost the exact same work done to my car:
Katech 116 cam
Ported heads with stock intakes & inconel (heavy) exhausts
New bronze guides
heavy duty Ferrea double springs
Comp trunion upgrade
Ported intake
Car already had headers
When I dropped off the car I had very light ticking- hardly noticeable...
When I picked up the car it was noticeably louder- especially in the light-medium load 1200-2000 rpm range. From what I have read- when going with higher lift cams, heavier valves, and heavy duty springs increased ticking is normal. I've also seen some posts where people get increased noise when going with the comp trunion upgrade even though there's no reason for it. I will be pulling the covers in 10k to check valve play JUST to make sure everything is good.
If the ticking has been constant- I wouldn't worry about it. If its getting louder...might want to pull some covers and look around.
One other thing to consider is the lifters- to me- the ticking sound I hear sure sounds like lifter noise... bleed down...preload...aahhhhhhh it never ends

I don't think you should worry. I have ported WCCH heads with the bronze guides, SS exhaust valves and all that good stuff with a very high lift cam (650+) and a choppy *** LSA(108). Plus I have the same CAI as you and have Long tube headers, offroad x pipe and Borla ATAK in the rear. I have about 200miles on this setup and let me tell you, the valve-train ticking noise is much louder than it was stock!!! It doesn't bother me, I run the **** out of it!!

I think it is just continued very high levels of concern given that the problem results in a rather large cost both in money and time and reduction of value in your car.
I think the latter is very much underrated as it has always been true that modded (I would guess the "fix" would be included) bring less value on sale than stock OEM low mileage Corvettes. Although that may change with the LS7.

The ticking has been there since the cam and the rest of the mods, it hasnt got louder. Just making sure its normal, Havent met anyone else w a Z and cam to really compare so its just my paranoid-ness since having gone thru the valve issue already.

This car sounds exactly like my own.

Enjoy your car. You're out of the dropped stock exhuast valve derby. Don't let those who are put off by that, and who themselves cannot point to a single instance of a dropped valve in here, nor anywhere else, in a car with "The Fix", bother you.

Despite all the horror stories about noise and such, every race motor I've built or been around has been noisier than hell. So those with internal mods need to expect it. I agree, I rather not have a noisy engine but it is what it is. Most race cars are open headers so you'll never hear half of all the damn noise it's really making.

Tell those trying to make that case to produce some evidence in the form of dropped valves in cars with "The Fix".
And neither did I.

lifter preload
See what your preload is should be around .060 or so depending on the lifter / cam.

Honestly....it sounds pretty normal. I don't hear any alarming sounds. I say don't worry until you need to worry.

It seemed to me that the ticking sound did not increase when you raised the RPM's which would lead me to believe the sound is the injectors. Car seems to sound very much like mine that is totally stock.
