Cam Swap Again - need opinions
Current setup is below- done in April/ May this year- little over 2000 miles on the setup
PRC LS7x 265cc Heads milled .030
Hollow stem intake valves/ SS exhaust valves
PRC .675 Dual Spring Kit
Custom Spec Black Widow Cam from Vette- Air
Ported Fast 102 Intake
Nick Williams 102 TB
Dynatech Long Tube 1 7/8 Headers
Comp cams trunion upgrade
Vararam Intake
New GM Timing Chain, Gaskets, LS7 Lifters, ARP Bolts
BTR Pushrods
160 Thermostat
No Cats and no mufflers
My current cam is 24X, 25X, 66X, 66X...on 110+2 LSA- with 27 degrees overlap
I am having issues with my ole lady not liking the big cam. I took in consideration of my goals but not hers haha...she loves driving the car too but hates the surging and not being able to lug it like it was stock. Her not driving it is not a option lol..as I like when we take trips to let her drive when I'm tired
Here is my question..I had another cam specd to be more tame, but now I am wondering if it is too much cam also..specs are
238/248
.651/.631
113 LSA
17 Degrees overlap
I dont want to have a cam swap done 3 times so I need honest opinions could I get by with this one and be able to lug it more or should I just go back stock? Would dropping from 27 to 17 degrees overlap make a big difference and something we both could compromise on?
Thanks and sorry for the long post

Tolero Apto Victum
OP: How is you damper, wobbles? Take a look at these two items http://store.katechengines.com/dampers-c41.aspx & http://store.katechengines.com/bille...sioner-p2.aspx Good luck with your mods!

Le Mans Master
milder cam but my opinion, still too much for her. Go 6-10 deg overlap max, and stay on a 113-115 lsa

If I ever do another cam swap it will be for either Lethal's Phantom cam or Katech's new K501 Cam.
But the phantom sounds more like what your needing.

Katech Torquer 116 might be worth a look. The 110's "little brother" - I run the 110 and my wife does not drive my car, so I don't care about a little surge because this car is a rocket ship...

Katech 110 in my ls7 5th gen camaro drove like stock.
But my current cam specd by Martin at tick drives pretty damn well too..
I would talk to him or check out Thier milder ls7 stuff if I was looking for another one

Melting Slicks
Too much cam
17 degrees still pretty big. Like the guy said above 6-10 degrees. Pick up drivabilty and really no loose much power in fact probably pick up power in the driving around town situations.

Safety Car
I installed this one and with no other mod's it made 510 RWHP on the 510 Race Engineering Dyno with nothing else but a Borla Type II. This drives real close to stock, no surge on the freeway at all (115 LSA) and only a little at very low RPM's. Very slight chop but enough that you know it's got work done. I'm adding P Fat headers and CAI this weekend and then back on the dyno. Should get 550 RWHP. Cam is from Crane Cams.

15 or less overlap at .050 is a good rule of thumb, but not all telling. The lobe profile is what you need to know. If you know IVO and EVC at .006, .050, .100, .200 lift and LSA, you can then plot the overlap curtain on a graph. Two cams with the same overlap, but different lobe profiles can have significantly different effects on low rpm performance.
Good luck getting this info though.

I personally would use Flowtechinduction.com . I have known him for almost 12 years now, he doesn't just pick a cam out of his catalog, he will model your complete setup, make sure all of your needs are met, and build a grind to exactly what is needed. So many companies have 4-5 cams that they just put on everyone depending on a couple factors, I would rather get a cam modeled around my exact setup, not the closest thing they offer. It costs about the same for a shelf cam and a custom, why not go custom from an expert that does nothing but eat, sleep, and live camshafts and valvetrain? I realize a custom isn't for everyone, many like to pick out a cam themselves, but since you are just asking board members, maybe you should just ask a cam pro? Just my opinion

OP are you dynoing before and after? I'm curious to see if you lose ~35hp, also have you had any troubles with the .675" springs?
