[Z06] Supercharged Z's only

Supercharged Z's only
I'm considering supercharging my Z, along with replacing the heads. I am also going to add a methanol injection kit.
Those of you who are supercharged, am I making the right decision? Will this engine be able to take 8lbs of boost without self-destructing? Please reply here or send me a PM.
Thanks
Bob

You're in the wrong forum. You should post here - you'll see much more action there.

Yes you are. Heads, s/c and alky would be a great street car. Plan on a clutch and some tires too.

Had my Vette supercharged. Heads were sent to WCCH..everything was done on them. Then my oil test showed copper 30ppm so I played it safe and had the bottom end forged, new crankshaft, pistons, the works. Play it safe because the LS7 is not so boost friendly. I'm also running an ECS meth kit with a custom cam and 5lbs boost and hitting 840crank and 704ft lbs torque on stock injectors. Once i upgrade to the ID1000's, she will hopefully break the 900 mark.

Oh and my crappy stock alternator gave out so looks like im in the market for a new aftermarket one. Moral of the story, plan before you drop cash. Take every precaution and do your research.

Thanks... I was planning on running 8 lbs of boost, new heads, methanol, etc. My main concern were the cast pistons. I REALLY DO NOT want to go into the motor. Question is, will the stock lower end take it? This is why I posted, so I could get feedback. Thanks again.

9:1 wouldn't be ideal IMO. Most S/C setups are 9.7-10:1.
Stock pistons will be fine at 700rwhp with a decent tune.

700rwhp was what I was told. I have milled heads (either .10 or .30?) mild cam, headers, etc...and I was told I could safely run around 5psi to put me around 650-700rwhp on the stock block. If I wanted to add meth I could bump up the boost by maybe a pound or two. Just some additional info for you to consider. Currently I'm putting down 540+/-rwhp/490tq.

If you run low boost then stock bottom end should take it. keep it 700bhp or under. My suggestion would be to get an oil test done to see if any fragments are in the oil in excess. If so... then reconsider your options and either go forged bottom end or very low boost

You should've seen my stock pistons when they came out. Car was never pushed hard and was completely stock. I was so disgusted by the look and wear that I took it to the scrap yard and got $10 dollars for the metal lol

638/636 whp/tq on a mustang dyno

Mine is supercharged, and the power is incredible. As far as reliability, it has been good so far in normal city driving. My temp will go to 224 and oil at 209 in stop and go traffic in the south florida sun and humidity. once I get going it cools off. I haven't tracked it and really not sure when I will ever have the time to do it. I run low boost for reliability and only run 93 octane pump gas and nothing else. My heads are done and have a cam that best matches the supercharger. Very happy with it so far, but I haven't had it long enough to give a good report.

dyno.
When I have the install done, I'm going with a Dewitts radiator to help cool things off. Might be a good thing for you to check into?

I'm having mine S/C as we speak, I had a H/C/I setup first but my cam works with boost too. I made 565/503 with my N/A build with all bolt ons and FAST 102 intake. Heads were done by WCCH. I'm hoping to make 675/600 on my A&A setup with new bigger CC heads and 93 octane

I'm getting ready to order a Edelbrock supercharger because of the warranty. I should be around 660HP at the crank. Mine is a 2013 Z06 so I don't want to have to buy a new motor yet. Lol I had the Edelbrock in my 2011 Camaro SS and loved it. I plan on getting a C7 Z06 or whatever they call it so I'm only doing the supercharger just for the extra power right now and sell the supercharger before trading it in.

I do have the DeWitts radiator, today in normal driving the oil was 209 and cooling was at 215, seems to be the range where it wants to be now that I am getting some more seat time with it. I never had a stock Z06 so I'm not sure what the normal temps should be.

Since you DO have a larger capacity radiator, those numbers seem high, even though you live in a hot climate. I have the stock radiator, 160 stat, and fan programmed to come on sooner. In 90 degree weather, coolant temp never exceeds 185 in stop and go traffic, and that is MAX! Once I get moving, it drops to 178 to 180. In 70 degree weather, runs 176 to 178,

I have a Callaway which is supercharged and LOVE it. Granted it is very conservative and probably only has 5 or 6 lbs of boost but creates more power than I need for the street. Unless you are into bragging rights I would say anything over 500 rwhp is plenty. I am assuming my SC652 is somewhere in the 550 to 600rwhp range tops, probably closer to the 550 and it is a blast to drive and coming from Callaway I am assuming bullet proof. I have close to 8000 miles on mine so far and have not had an issue (knock wood) .
My recommendation is have it done by a reputable shop and go conservative and you will be fine. If you are going to go with more boost or hp than my car is putting out I would build the motor or be prepared to down the road.
There is nothing like a supercharged Corvette, they are a blast to drive.
