Default First time to the drag strip in my stock Z

So about a month and half or two months ago i bought a 100% stock 06z06 with 5,800 miles on it. So last night I took it out to the strip on 18 inch c5 z06 wheels/hoosier dr's. And my thoughts intially were wow this stock clutch is terrible haha....

But I did end up running 11.32 at 123 mph trap speed. The conditions weren't the best. The head wind was pretty strong at about 15mph and this strip isn't known for being fast. Overall i'm happy and I know with a few more passes i'd be in the 10.9-11.1 range.

Man that is pretty darn good for 90 percent stock. I have not seen guys run that in the chicago area on a stock Z. You are way above the crowd for right now. What were your 60 ft times?

A M2W switch makes it 90% stock lol that's funny. Switch does nothing at all.

Thanks for the congrats guys. These cars really do move in stock form. 60ft was 1.76 spinning. I was on 315/30/18 Hoosier drag radials.

I am hoping they are all kidding with you. Great times.

Get yourself some 17 inch rims and get that 60' down and you might see 10's with some great DA.

I'm hoping they are too lol. Thanks.... I actually have 17s but didn't have time to get the 315 hoosiers mounted so i borrowed a friends wheels. And I think in the good fall weather next month with a low 1.6 or high 1.5 60ft 10s are possible....Unfortunately I won't be able to find out what it can really run because the h/c/i set up is going on this weekend. I just wanted to get some idea of how fast it is stock but its crazy how fast these cars can go with decent drivers.

Your times say you can drive for sure. Great times for your 1st time. My first time out in 80 degree weather I ran a 11.3 as well. 2nd time out in some great DA and a lot more practice I ran a 10.8@128 100% stock... not even a mild to wild switch...

You gotta really push the RPM up there to get a good launch and avoid the bog.

Good luck with the mods.

I bogged every pass except this one. I only made 4 passes and each one got faster but the bog is frustrating at first. Def takes some rpm to get out the hole smoothly. I'd love to run 10s but as soon as I bought the car i got to work on the mods so i don't have a valve issue and have a corvette paper weight lol.

128 trap is movin! I don't think I've ever heard of a stock one trapping over 124 at this particular track but we do have another track thats a little further that is a little faster. I think the highest I could trap out here would be 125 maybe 126 on a glory pass. What burnout technique and rpm do you usually leave from on a sticky track?

After the tires are heated up good I only scrub them and then do a very short rolling burnout. My launch RPM is about 4500.

Here is my runs back to back.. sorry... not edited. But you can see how I launch.

BTW check the fast list, some have trapped 130 100% stock.

To the OP, GREAT times for your 1st time out. It would have been great to see what you could have done with more practice and a better DA!

To Propain:Atco rentals are always fun!
Where were the other attendees??? It Looked like you were the sole racer at that rental!

Nice runs! What were the 60' times, especially the next to the last run??

I rented the track just for myself... Just kidding!

Thanks Ron,

This was at about 4:15. Track closes at 4:30. Everyone was done because someone blew their rear and I think everyone thought it was an omen or something and didn't want to run anymore. The 15 minutes of run you see in the video was using race fuel. I wanted to see if I could better my best time. The race fuel actually hurt my times. You can hear me talking about it in the video if you listen close enough.

Average 60' was 1.65 for the day. 1.60 was the best 60' of the day. 1.61 got me the 10.8@128. The 2nd to last run was a 10.95. I can dig up the slip but I would say probably 1.6X 60'. Pretty much as much slip as you can possibly get in the Z06 without glazing the clutch.

Ok thanks...I found that the rolling burnout worked best as well but i was worried about glazing the clutch so i did a 3500 launch. Good driving on those runs. With a few more passes I was hoping to get a smooth launch like in your vid.

I've studied that fast list lol. Some of you guys are getting some GREAT runs! I know I could never trap 128-130 here but 130 stock is insane

Thanks alot... I'm bummed that I'm not getting one or 2 more trips to the strip in stock trim. The DA is rarely negative but i'm confident I could have knocked a couple tenths off and added 1-2mph which is really moving.... Catching up to you propain and yourself would take a miracle day out here haha but i'm satisfied. Just hate leaving tenths on the table haha

The DA means a lot. What is the elevation at the track you run at?

I agree about leaving 10ths. That is why I am still stock. I want 1 more crack at Ranger and Ron's amazing times. I didn't bring a hauler so I didn't go above 5K. My shifts can also be faster as you can see. Well see how it goes... The cold weather is coming...
