My engine blew up
Well...i guess its my turn now. I put a hole in my ls7 motor yesterday. From what i can see, there is a hole in my block. Ill hear from the dealership today. Thanx chevy!!!! I figure ill just cough up 15k+ to get my car running again. And i told myself that i was not going to rob any banks this year. Very disappointing.
Stock 2008 Z06. B&B fusion cat back (stock). Someone sell me a replacement motor.

Very sorry to hear of your bad luck. I'm sure it will be asked, so......how many miles and what type of driving? Any track time? If you are just outside of warranty with no tune GM may goodwill the engine, worth asking anyway.

20k miles. I was just cruising, speeding up in 2nd. At 3k rpm the engine came apart. ZERO TRACK TIME. I am 6 months out of warranty. Do you think they will "goodwill" it?

please. tell me more. I have been looking online. I have found replacement motors, but not at half the price!! they r all a bit more expensive. And i dont trust the stock ls7 motor any more. I would rather have something else in it now. Something with more power but without a crazy cam loop. Any suggestions? thanx

Contact local GM rep first and see what they say then go up the food chain. They know this is happening all over so maybe they will. Let me know in private message if they won't and I'll give you a contact # that might help. Oh and be polite you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

If you bought it new, there is a higher possibility that they will "goodwill" it.
Whatever you do, don't let them tell you "sorry you're **** out of luck." If they don't goodwill it, say you will file an NHTSA claim and won't be upgrading to a C7Z when it comes out.
That will scare them, for sure.

My car is a full year out of the 5 year powertrain warranty and I was able to get my Trans (it blew) covered for 1/2 price parts and labor...granted it was an RPM trans and not GM, but I have a good relationship with the tech and dealer. A lot will depend on how hard the dealer will go to bat for you.
I would also be curious what type of failure you had, if it is the common exhaust valve window the block or something else.
Good luck

and I am sure GM has record of replacing these LS7's either in or out of warranty..they are well aware of the issues.. will be interesting to see if they take care of him.

Damn man, these are really the cases you hate to hear about. I hope the goodwill warranty works out for you if you pursue it.

They should do a goodwill repair considering how short of time it's out of warranty and with so few miles if its stock. Or they might meet him halfway.
Definitely worth a try.

So sorry to hear this.
It makes me unhappy for the added reasons that I also have a stock 2008 Z06, purchased 3 months ago with 6K miles. I paid $3000 for GMPP that's 4 years / 72K miles, so I'm covered until then but hearing your story makes me think I should have used the $3000 to get the head/valve guide fix instead at CMS or at RPM instead of buying GMPP.

Talk to the Service Writer at your dealership. The dealership doesn't make any determinations on a Goodwill warranty. GM makes all of the determinations on Goodwill warranty repairs. Don't go to an independent until you know what GM will do. Although my powertrain warranty was still in affect they goodwilled mine since my engine failed on track.
