Default Valve guide wear 18k miles

I just took my heads apart at 18k miles. All of the intake guides were close to spec.

The part that seemed different with mine that most ive read about on here is the exhausts were all close to spec at the top (.002-.003)

HOWEVER
at the bottom they were all over .007 with the worst two being .011

I noticed the valve noise get substantially worse over the course of a track day at VIR, so as soon as i got it home i pulled it apart. looks like it was a good thing i did.

It's usually nearest the bottom on the exhaust guides which shows worst wear.

2007 bone stock. Ive only had it for 3k miles and the one track day. I was told it was only street driven before but someone backed it in a ditch at 4k miles so i assume its been run pretty hard.

Backing into a ditch is a sign of driver incompetence not running the car hard.

yeah i'll agree but to clarify by backing it in the ditch i meant they lit the tires and looped it into the ditch so the traction control was prolly off and they def had foot in it.. something tells me that wasnt the first time they lit the tires.

I really dont care. to me these cars were meant to be run. I beat on it every chance i get

for the record i talked trash to the gm at the local dealership about how the car only had 18k miles...he said these problems were from age not mileage lol...

apparently my valve guides wore out sitting in the garage under the cover

I'm beginning to think GM's quality control on the LS7 is non-existent. I mean, it's a roll of the dice whether your LS7 will see 36,000 miles or not. I don't know what the failure rate is, but it's gotta be lousy.

But then again, maybe it's not QC...maybe it's just a bad design to start with. Either way, there are far, far too many crap engines in our beloved Z06 cars. If GM could ever identify the source of the problem, the person(s) to blame ought to be horsewhipped in the town square, and then branded a sex offender for life (because so many Z06 owers got screwed).

There is no problem. Jimman has almost 200,000 miles on his engine.

Question for the really TRAINED drivers on this forum. For us average Joes who, how should i say, BEAT ON IT EVERY CHANCE I GET, Will most likely(at some point) make a mistake and cause serious damage to any motor? Just a question......

if you have an air-to-air oil cooler, and beat on it every chance you get (like when the oil is only 130 degrees) it can help increase chances of failure.

Alright DON I see your in NC..lets meet up at VIR or CMP and see who is "trained" lol

I can say my car hasn't been over revved or run hard cold since ive had it.

I hate to say it being a chevrolet guy but i had a e46 m3 before this and it never missed a beat with multiple track days...no one ever had to ask "was it run hard"

crf538, how are E46 M3's? I'm thinking of trading my high mileage 350z for a high mileage 2004 manual M3 E46.

Point taken, & well said. Believe me, i am far from being a pro with these cars. Im 55 and can shift gears with most i suppose. But iv seen too many of theses Zs abused by idiot drivers. Then, they are sold after multiple tickets to a new owner with dreams like i had when i found mine. peaceout bro...
