Default Porcupine Dislodges My Fog Lamp Assembly

I hit one last night while rounding a curve. The critter was only about 10 pounds, and I was going about 40MPH. The impact was enough to break the lamp assembly free from all three bolts, and it was lying inside the bumper! Porky was DOA.

The lamp still works. Shouldn't be too hard to fix. Just a bit surprising that it broke loose so easily considering there is no external damage to the lens cover or bumper.

Can't think of any witty retorts to the above.

To be serious for a moment: have you checked your tires for quills ?

It hunched up in defense mode the instant I struck it. I swerved, so the impact pushed it away from the tire. The quills are hollow, and not strong enough to penetrate a tire. They will stick to the surface of the rubber, but that's about all.

In the interest of a witty retort...Usually, the only thing that flattens is the porcupine!

I've run over a few critters in the past 55 years of driving, but I never took any of them home and weighed them.

Neither did I, but after serving 34 years as a state wildlife conservation officer, I think my estimated weight was pretty close!
