TPMS Track wheels for an 08 and a 12 Z06
I posted this on the RR section as well. I have a 12 z and am looking to pick up a 08.
I want to be able to use my track wheels on both cars. 2010 and up used one style TPMS and 2008-2009 used a different one. There are a number of threads on the various model years however I have been unable to find how you can run a set of 2010 senors on a 2008 model year.
Anyone have the answer?
thanks

As others have said, you can't use any sensors except the ones specified for the model year - the 2005-2009 uses one sensor, and the 2010-2013 uses a different sensor. They aren't compatible/interchangeable!!!!
All our sensors for U.S./Canada spec cars transmit on 315 mHz. Euro spec cars transmit on 434 mHz (at least the 2005-2009 European C6, I'm not sure about the 2010-2013). The 434 mHz Euro sensors are orange.
The difference is the data stream that is transmitted by the sensors is different. The 2010-2013 sensors include a temperature, but of course the C6 doesn't display that in the DIC. The same sensors are used in a number of other GM vehicles, and some may display the temp - I dunno.
Actually, there is another sensor that works in the 2005-2009 that can be programmed into the TPMS with a magnet, but they were discontinued after about two months of the 2005 model year production (about July or August 2004). They were used in the 2004 XLR, but also discontinued in 2005 when the current gray sensor was put into the cars. They are very rare - there is ONE that has been listed on eBay for several months for around $35.
Butt.....if anybody really wants a set, I have 5 of them (1 is in the unopened plastic shipping bag, and the other 4 came out of an old early C6 or probably an XLR). They all check out as "Batt OK" when I do a diagnostic check on them with my TPMS tool.
If anybody wants them, $120 shipped four a set of 4.
There are also 2 different sensors that can be used in the 2010-2013. One is green, and the other is black.
The black one must be triggered by a TPMS tool to program them into the TPMS.
The green ones will trigger with either a TPMS tool, or by changing air pressure in the tire. So, if you have a couple sets of wheels/tires/sensors for your 2010 or newer C6, you don't need a TPMS tool.
I've got a couple sets of used green sensors if anybody with a 2010-2013 wants them. $80 shipped for a set of 4, and a diagnostic check with my TPMS tool shows they are all in great shape.
Bottom line -

Bottom line -
- All C6 sensors for North American C6's transmit on 315 mHz, but they send out different data depending on 2005-2009 or 2010-2013
- They are not compatible - you must use the sensors for your model year
- The TPMS computer can only hold 4 sensor ID#'s, so if you put in new sensors or swap wheels you must program the new set of sensors into your TPMS (there are some new sensors that came out recently, and they can be cloned with the ID#'s from your current sensors, so that when you swap on a different set of wheels you don't need to do anything
- The gray and black sensor can only be triggered with a TPMS tool. The green sensors can be triggered with a tool or by changing air pressure. There are some very rare magnetically triggered ones for the 2005-2009.

I have a pre 10' car and put together some track wheels with TPMS sensors. No problem, as have a Bartech 300 reset tool. Believe The 10' model cars were different, as could Reset the sensors without the tool. These were having problems picking up stray signals, so was only a one year deal. No problem since I have the tool, as I also have a Blizzak winter package for my daily car, and had the Tire Rack include TPMS sensors. The Bartech tool has no problem with these either.

They are not compatible (2010 tpms). In 2010 the sensor changed from 06-09 sensors. The 06-09 sensor REQUIRE a tool to program them.
In 2010 they changed to a green sensor which DOES NOT require any tool to program. This is ONLY 2010 and 2011's built in 2010. In Jan 2011 they changed again to the late 11 + sensor which was used thru the remainder of C6 production.
In order to use the NON-tool sensor, you would have to change the TPMS computer and whatever else it communicates with.

Thanks to everyone. I do have the tool and I have also changed using the lowing the air method however bottom line a 08 and a 12 cant use the same wheel unless I have double TPMS's in the wheels.
