2008 Corvette Z06 PRC Heads and Cam build thread (finally in progress)
So I finally pulled the trigger on a heads/cam package today. I've been wanting to do this for a while but just now really had the funds to do it the way I wanted to. Big thanks to Texas Speed for answering all my stupid questions.
Parts ordered:
PRC 265's with Titanium Valves. 67cc chambers.
Custom ground cam
Chromoly pushrod
ARP head studs
OEM head gaskets
Cometic timing cover and water pump gasket
OEM balancer bolt
OEM lifters
Cloyes Race Billet True Roller timing set
Kook's 1 7/8 long tubes and x pipe
Looking forward to doing the swap. I plan to update as I go with lots of pictures. We've done a few cam swaps before but I'm going to try and do a better job of documenting to procedure since this is become a very popular thing to do.

I'm not sure what to tell you on that. I did ask them if they were coated when I ordered them and there response was yes they are.

So we finally got started last night. Got the car up in the air, hood off, intake removed, coil packs removed. I plan on working on the car a good bit tonight and pretty much all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if need be. So check back frequently for "O crap I've torn my car apart and now I have no clue what to do post."
I figured I'd post this picture for a good laugh. I was looking for an extra blanket to put on the roof before we set the hood on it and this was the only thing I could find. Only in Alabama I suppose. Roll Tide!

Melting Slicks
Balancer
You might want to add a ATI Balancer while you are at it.

I'm guessing you just went with stainless.

Talking with TSP. They checked back on my order to make sure no mistakes and they are confirming they did ship my heads with titanium intake valves. He checked some other heads in their shop and he said they also look very similar in color to the exhaust.
The intake valves are coated with "sitex" coating chromium nitrade. these valves are from Trick Titanium.
TSP said that titanium intakes are identified by having a "giant step" on the outer radius, and a dimple in the middle. SS and hollow stem do not have a dimple or giant step. the SS does have a step buts it's very thin.
He didn't know why there was a color difference on the OPs heads. There are even patches of different color on that top valve in his pic. can that wipe off? How long have you had those heads OP?
the guide material they use is manganese on the both intake and exhaust.
They said every GM LS7 head they have received have had loose guides. It's insane.

I wouldn't fret. It could be different suppliers. I work in the rectifier industry and we deal with metal finishing. If there was any sort of plated or electrically treated coating on the valves bath variances can cause different colors or effects.

Glad you have that sorted. I have been following your thread. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

New heads? If so, more good info and very interesting . . . . .

I had my installer check too.....mine are Ti Intake, look at the picture above though, I think alot has to do with lighting, the two intake valves on the exposed chambers have similiar patterns with the light on the bottom edges.............
........and if correct above ^^^ mine has the large step too.
