Default Incredible tire wear success story for my Michelin PS2's!

My 2011 Z06 with just over 28,000 miles (my daily driver!) is fast approaching it's 2nd year birthday with me (took delivery on March 3, 2011!) and people called my crazy for ditching the OEM GEN II GY Runflats with only 64 miles on the odometer! These tires were very noisy and very rough on the highway when compared to the Michelin PS2's not to mention how at slow speeds while turning on smooth pavement the front end would shimmy something horrible (like an old 4 wheel drive truck on drive pavement!). I went with the 295's up front and 345's out back.

I had the front end aligned with the "Street Performance" spec from Pfadt's website http://www.pfadtracing.com/blog/wp-c...-alignment.pdf and have had my tires re-balanced every 7,000 miles. I was perfroming my 28,000 mile oil change (I change oil every 3,500 miles so that on every other oil change I pull the tires and have them rebalanced) and had the guys at the tire shop where I dropped them off measured the tread depth....fronts had average minimum of 7/32's left and rear's at 5/32's! This equates to ~ 65% life remaining on the fronts and ~35% remaining on the rears which for a set of tires with only a 220 tread rating and 20,000 mile warranty they may actually last me 40,000 miles (on the rears, longer on the front)!!!!

Major props to Michelin!!!

What are your driving habits like? Any track days? Power sliding etc?

Give us eager to try future owners some more specific insight Please

I believe that "frontend shimmy something" (which would arguably get much less once the tires are broken in) becomes more of an issue with larger 295 front tires.

The PSS tires actually have 300 treadwear, and they do come with 30,000 mile warranty, of which only 15,000 mile is applicable for our cars since we cannot fully rotate the tires due to having staggered sizes.

BTW, yes, I like PSS tires, too

Still 30K tread wear warranty for the fronts, but not the rears (15K).

OP, you said that you have 295 front PSS, but they don't make a 295/18. Did you change front wheels. They do make a 295/19, but in back they do not make a 345/25-20, so you would have had to had 19 inch rims front and back to have 295/345 PSS combo.

Was thinking this as well...PS2's have a 295-18, but the PSS's are 285's.

He also said treadwear is 220; could he be talking about PS2s?

It sure sounds like PS2s. I went through two sets and averaged 32K miles out of each set.
PSSs are on there now...

Anyway, the PSSs weren't available in 2011.

Right, the PSS in Z06 sizes were not available until Feb. 2012. I got mine mid-Feb. 2012 and like them a lot.

Right now, I'm replacing my Michelin PS2 ZP's on the rear. Proud to say I got them in Oct 2008, and achieved 32178 miles on them!
Going for another set!

Outstanding tires.

Proper Alignment will work wonders.
I bought a 2013 Z06 in Sept 12 it drifted to right. Dealer checked alignment but reported in specs so dealer aligned to eliminate drift to right. Drives straight and very little tire dust on car body now. I'll be interested in mileage. Ran BS on other vettes, but new one came with Michelin PS2 which are really sticky.

Let me apologize for incorrectly stating which tires I have...they are PS2's, not PSS's as I originally stated (I corrected the error above in the orginal post....not sure what the heck I was thinking!).

My question is how do you do it? I hope mine last 15 k.... Will be buying a set in the spring

I literally use my car as a daily commuter car. It has not been to the track, no power sliding and I do not drive it hard...of course the rears occassionally spin upon brisk acceleration as evidenced by the additional 2/32nds tread wear when compared to the fronts

It sure sounds like PS2s. I went through two sets and averaged 32K miles out of each set.
Yup, you nailed it!

He also said treadwear is 220; could he be talking about PS2s?
It would have helped to look at my receipt rather than rely on my memory, yes PS2's

I believe that "frontend shimmy something" (which would arguably get much less once the tires are broken in) becomes more of an issue with larger 295 front tires.
The 295's exhibit zippo shimmy when new unlike the GY GEN IIs!

I have corrected my error so hopefully this makes sense now

Wait till you try the pss, I couldn't get more than 6 months out of the ps2 but that's cause I like using the 500hp on tap.
