Did the valve drop during just normal driving?

Disclaimer: Everything you're about to read is contingent on your block not having a hole in it.

Depending on whether or not you can do your own labor (or at least get it done at a reasonable price) you'd be surprised at how inexpensive the job could end up costing.

Case in point - I recently bought a short block that had dropped a valve, ruined one of the heads, cracked the sleeve in the cylinder and damaged the piston. Despite all this, I ended up getting the entire motor rebuilt with new rings and bearings (using a spare piston that I had from another motor) including having the cylinder resleeved for just over $2400.

Given that you probably still have one good head, you could probably get away with having your total bill end up being around $3000 when you factor in the cost of buying a single head.

In case you're wondering as to how well a rebuild like this will hold up, I ran a 10.09 with my car (it's a regular C6 with an LS7/A6 combo) two weeks ago on my first pass of the day and on the second, I ran what would have been a high 9 second pass but unfortunately snapped my differential and transmission output shaft on the 2-3 shift.

Good luck regardless of what you decide to do with it.

Christopher

OK, this just brought me over the top. I just ordered new PRC LS7x 268cc heads with 11.2 compression from Texas Speed as a replacement for mine. Not that I have any valve train noise but I just hate the idea of having a hole in my block.

Hopefully in two weeks I have my peace of mind......

another new member joins up, and on the same day posts about a dropped valve?

I'm not saying it's all coincidence, hoax or conspiracy (I recall another scenario where the scenario was similar, but the poster turned out to be legit) - just odd.

Not the first person to mention that, but I've yet to see a hoax.

Perhaps.

But for every one of these you count, you can probably count one of these.

Where the person has been a member here for going into 3 years, has dropped a valve, but has made no mention of it in any of his prior posts.

Sorry to hear. More details around your car, miles, and typical driving would be nice.

Will need to expedite my head work!

I'm not second guessing the OP, but is it unusual to have a completely stock car with just the cats removed? Wouldn't the cat delete at least require a tune?

Yes, to keep the CEL from coming on.

It is odd but done more than you might think, at least back in AR while we lived there. I know 4-5 folks that did this. They just liked the sound better but boy did those cars stink.

If cats removed, wouldn't his Z need re-tuning?
