Default Another Valve Guide Question

Good morning, new member here
I bought a 2007 z06 with 17000km on it, was only able to drive it home from the dealer and store it in the garage as it snowed the next day and snow is still on the ground( I live in northern Canada). After reading as much as I can about the valve train issues including the sticky about "G.M. response to LS7 valve guide issue" I'm wondering if it affects the 2007's. The reason I ask is because it states in the response "model years 08,09,10,11".
Thank you
Ed

06 and 07 are included in this problem. They just haven't stated it. Many members with these cars have reported valve failures and worn out valve guides in these model years. So get the valve guide wear checked and check your plugs for oil. Be proactive or be sorry.
These cars are amazing! But most unfortunately have an issue that must be felt with.

It would be very wise to check your upper rotating assembly geometry. This is the best indication to check and see "if" there is a issue....also smoking on de-accel, and oily plugs.....

Look at John G's thread on how to check geometry. This and guide/valve play are the best indicator of worn guides. You can do it your self for very little, or pay a shop to do it. Otherwise, these are solid cars.

congrats on your Z

Congrats on the car. I have an 07 with 21,000 miles on it. I see you bought it from a dealer. While the ink is still wet on your contract, see about an extended warrenty from the dealer. That will give you some time to sort this out. There are thousands of posts on this forum about dropped values, defective value guides and value train geometry. We are all still learning and there are many opinions on the issues but as time goes by, the solutions will become more clear. Good luck.

Putting it in perspective, I believe approx 26,000 C6-Z06 have been built and way less than 1%have reported dropping a valve...Add to this perspective the fact that many of these failures were modified cars (cams, headers, tuned).

Not to downplay the issue, the guidance given above is well advised. Better safe than sorry..Good Luck

The problem is... we have no idea how many Z's have worn guides that will drop a valve but have not failed yet. People not on the forums have no idea there could be a problem. That is why the failure rate is so low, my opinion.

With that said, it doesnt hurt to pop off the valve covers and check how your rockers are wiping and do a wiggle test on the valves (outlined in the 'root cause' thread, by John_G).

Instead of wondering, might as well find out to see which side of the fence your car is on.

06 and 07's have the problem and 07's have a couple of other problems with the needle bearings in the rockers.

Is the needle bearing problem only limited to the 07 year cars??

Congrats on the Z06? What part of northern Canada? Inuvik? Iquluit?

The 06's and 07's are definitely affected by valve guide wear although it's extent is not easily determined.
