W/ZR1 on road course you get accel squat, braking dive, heat soak and power loss, you'd want to remove suspension and trade out after the OEM investment, not too cost effective. Track pros pick the Z06 hands down. Either ride is a lot of fun and very capable though.

Interesting. I figured the ZR1 was way more track ready.

Enough. The zr1 is the ultimate corvette,Its that simple if a guy can afford a zr1 thats the vette he se going to buy.A used xr1 2009 and up is about 20 000 dollars more than a z06 of the same year. Its faster, brakes better,is rarer, has a much more reliable engine and has people looking at you more than many exotics.I love my z06 very much but if i sell it guess whats next?A zr1!

it's all about what you like. First off, corvettes of today are not an investment. it's a great american hot rod. I've had 7 of them. My current ride is a 09 Z06. with a forged LS7 under the hood. All the best parts. Built by Charlie Williams of RPM motors. It makes 575rwhp/523rwtq. I have turned 180.2 in the mojave mile. I drive it everyday. life is to short to leave it in the gagage. You guys think by keeping the mles low it going to be worth something in time. yea, 30 years or more. if your so incllined to make money buy gold or there's always the stock market. It's an American plastic car. A great one but not an investment.
So when you're laying on your death bed and your pristine corvette is in the garage with 8,000 miles on it after 10 years. you can die knowing that somebody is going to enjoy the hell out of it when your dead.So mod the hell out of your Z06 or get the ZR 1 and drive it like you stold it everyday, and let the other sap leave his in his garage. Then ask yourself who having more FUN!!!!!!

Okay! I test drove the ZR1 today and it was a big difference as far as ride quality; it was much smoother than my 2009 Z06. I didn't really notice much difference in power cruising around town. My Z06 actually feels more aggressive; probably just because of my Akrapovic exhaust sounds so sweet. As far as looks I honestly like my Z06 almost as well; I have an Atomic Orange Z06 with APR Front Splitter, side skirts, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser. Currently my payment is about $800 per month with about 4 years left. They are going to give me $50,000 for my Z06, so with the low interest rate of 1.9%, my payment on Zr1 would be about $960 per month. Something I was shocked to find out is that my car insurance will double if I get ZR1. (From $82 per month to $150 per month) OUCH! Also, living in Iowa I have to consider plates. Z06 are $700 a year; I'm guessing Zr1 probaly about $1400 a year.

Mod your Z and be done with it. After you worked the numbers, it's just not worth the extra payment.
My car has 560/542 at the wheels and its a handful. It cost nowhere near $13k to make that kind of power. It can be done a lot cheaper.

My insurance went down when I went from my 08z to '11 zr1.....

Did you get on it at all? The zr1 does feel a bit less responsive over the ls7, but that goes away once you get on the throttle... Mid range is stupid, I feel I only need half throttle to match wot mid range of the z06... Then again that's what 600lbft does vs 470...There's 150lbft difference at 3800rpm between the two

I've weighed this option many times. I own an 08 Z and toggle back and forth with selling it to get a ZR1. Mine is a H/C car which I've spent the money on. At the end of the day for me, it's not worth the extra money to get a car that essentially is the same on the exterior. I understand there are some interior differences, but the powertrain compared to what I have now is the major difference. Based on how I use the car(street only), I can barely use the 600whp I have now.

My h/c Z will trap 136-139 depending on the weather, and is plenty fast. For me, I'm much like Evil427 where the car doesn't get driven much. If I drive it 2-3 times a month, it's alot. I just can't justify the expenditure to enjoy it 2-3 times more a month. No matter which way I cut it, I will be spending an extra 30k for a Zr1 before it is modded. 30k over a 5yr note for me is about 550 a month extra. So having a stock zr1 cost me approx $200 bucks every time I turn the key is an expensive proposition.

I think it boils down to usage. Figure out how often you use it and what it will cost you based on your individual usage. If I drove mine more(3-4 times a week) I could see it. However, I enjoy driving my Leaf daily for my commute. It makes my vette that much sweeter when I take it out.

Don't get me wrong, ZR1 is a great car, but if driven hard it will do as I mention. As OP asks, heavily modded Z06 or OEM ZR1. The Z06 will kick bu** on a road course. LG did testing on the amount of heat soak there's a post out there. Pro drivers and tests have mentioned the squat/dive characteristics of suspension. Sorry, just facts.

The only reason I would take a zr1 over the Z06 would be if I NEEDED to have the warranty. You get more power without having to void the warranty. Lets face it the zr1 was suppose to be and was made for the track however can only lap the Nurburgring 3 seconds faster than the Z06/Z07 thats weak. A Z06 with intake and exhaust could run the same time or faster. For your specific case it sounds like you need to keep the Z06 stock and forget about the zr1. You said if you grabbed the zr1 you'd HAVE to keep it stock for a long time. With that being the case how would you get the Z06 back up and running if the motor blew if you wouldn't even be able to mod the zr1?

On the other hand... perhaps you should try getting some first hand experience instead of believing (or misunderstanding) everything you read on the Intardwebz.

I'm torn with financing being as low as it is now, wether to spend the $13,000 with motor mods, or just trade in on the stock ZR1. Would appreciate any kind of feedback on this. THANKS!
Just went through the exact same dilemma. Contemplated completely rebuilding my C6Z or going to a ZR. My 06 Z was paid off, supercharged and had 17k miles on it. I decided to go with the new ZR. My car is just for street use (and bragging rights). Most ooh's and ah's I ever gotten on a car. The C6Z is a revolutionary car and is mostly preferred for the track (due to its balance) but the ZR is just a super car for more reasons than just the difference in horse power. Also just spent 3 days driving a ZR on the track at spring mtn and will tell you that the staff there will highly disagree with the negative things that have been stated about the ZR on the track in this thread

Either way, it a good decision to have to make. Good luck
