No doubt about it....Zr1 is amazing. I have a highly modded Z06 and would not give it up for a ZR1. Lethal Performance has a 9 second ZR1 that he drives to the track and back home. If you can afford the ZR1 and mod it, that would be an ideal scenario.

Gio and Briancb1 - I don't think you got my point, if money is no object, then yes ZR but what will it cost to upgrade to the ZR ??? he's looking to spend 13k right now but what's the upgrade going to cost........if he has it, hey, all good. Spend away.

In my case, my son is going to University, for me to upgrade now to a 2010/2011 ZR, my estimate is about $40k..........can't do it right now so I may spend $5-10k at Katech and be happy for a few years down the road. True, I may not see 30 cents back on the dollar but I will have more hp than I have now and reliability instead of having the 'head' issue. cheers!

Mods are NOT a strong selling point that is totally false.I ve been selling cars for 26 years and it is much more difficult to sell a modded car than a stock car.Modded car = abused car ,usually the case.Zr1 much better choice.

As far as the cost, I'm about $20,000 ahead on my Z06, so the with the $13,000 in mods compared to trading in for the Z06, I'd be about the same as far as payments. I may have to pay $100 more a month for the ZR1 and be back at 72 months of payments. And if I get the ZR1 I would not be able to afford any mods for a LONG time. Also, the 2010 ZR1 has 9,000 miles and I checked blue book and it is $102,000. We're going into winter here in Iowa and they have it down to $79,900. I think I'm going to test drive it today. Thanks for all of your input!

I feel the same way, but its funny how some salesmen will try to use mods as selling points or to even start with a higher price...

That's a decent price, and probably a couple grand wiggle room there.

If you're going to test drive it........"enjoy your new ZR1"

Completely disagree! I've had purpose built quartermile cars and several high hp street cars that I do not beat on. Modding means to personalize, sometimes people just need to have it and know they have it (hp) but not use it. May be hard to believe but true for many.

Same when I had many sportbikes, have 180 hp litre bike that does 104 mph in 1st (2004-2008 R1) doesn't mean I used it or beat on it but it was good cruising in it knowing you have it and can zoom by 10 cars at a time when you want to in any gear.

I have yet to have my car on a track (well, except the Good Guys AutoX this year, which is hardly abuse) since the latest round of changes to somewhat detune the car to improve its mannerisms. I guess I am starting to show my age because my street driving has calmed WAY down. Now I just cruise it like an old man 80% of the time. The other 20% is windows down, exhaust open, terrorizing the back streets and scaring off small animals. But this car has never seen R compound rubber (yet) and with my schedule lately it probably won't for quite awhile. It collects dust 5-6 days a week.

Redline oil going in it this weekend.

How can any of you recommend either car with the little info he gave us? Sure, just about everyone would pick a ZR1 over a Z06...so lets get that out of the way.

Lets assume he is trading in his 09 Z06, most he'll get is $43k and assume he gets the ZR1 for 75k....thats a 32k difference right there...add in tax and you're at 35k difference then if you minus the mods of the Z06 ..OP would be looking a solid $20k difference.

Is ZR1 worth the extra $20k should be debate? What if he gets tired of a stock ZR1 and wants to mod it...then add mod money and fairly soon its a $25k+ difference.

ZR1 guys can jump in with maintenance cost...but i can imagine ZR1 rotors are pretty coin alone when time comes to replace.

Lets imagine all things are equal. 2009 ZR1 clean low miles 1 owner. 75-80K.

2009 Z06 low miles clean 1 owner: 53-55K. Stock for stock the ZR1 wins in the 1/4 by about 5-6 10th in the 1/4 in the same conditions. Put in 20K into the Z06 and the Z06 will beat that ZR1. But by how much? 20K into a Z06 will get you what? Into the mid 9's in the 1/4?

If its a road course car ZR1 all the way. To much money to put into the Z06 to match its all around performance gain.

W/ZR1 on road course you get accel squat, braking dive, heat soak and power loss, you'd want to remove suspension and trade out after the OEM investment, not too cost effective. Track pros pick the Z06 hands down. Either ride is a lot of fun and very capable though.
