Default My 2009 Z06 popped it's clogs

My 2009 Z06 (stock) daily driver with 39000 miles lost the motor this last Saturday. I got it over to the dealer Monday morning. They called me last night to tell me that the engine would not turn over (I knew that already). When they put it on the rack and pulled the plug, coolant ran out of the pan for several seconds before the oil did. They confirmed today that there was not a tune on the car. I am waiting for them to get it apart so that we can see what the internals look like.

The engine was running alright just before it popped but I had made a mental note that it appeared the oil pressure was running lower than normal and not increasing as much when the revs came up.

When it did go it sounded like someone had thrown a bunch of aquarium rocks into a garbage disposal.

We'll see what happens.

Whatever the cause, appears you're in for a brand new LS-7 rolling the odometer back to start.

WOW, I'm really sorry to hear about this that's a HUGE bummer.

At least should be covered under warranty and get a brand new engine.

Bes of luck.

If this keeps up i m going to have to get a zr1 and sell the z06.We can try to cover it up as much as we want but there definitely is a problem with many ls7 engines.Mine was done on warranty two years ago ,i ve only put on 6000 miles since but i m still very concerned.Too bad its such a great car to drive.I might do the heads with brass valves and good guides, if not zr1 here i come.

I love driving this car but I don't plan on keeping it for more than 2 more years. I'll get rid of it about the time the 5yr/100k warranty is up. By then it should have around 90-100K on it.

What to do then is the question? Are there problems like this with the LS9 motors? Is the LS7 just too big and pushing the limits of what a production engine can handle?

I guess that is what I need to be thinking about for the future.

Oh, when I get a new LS7 in this car, I am thinking about just having a new clutch put in while it is all apart. What are the thoughts and consensus on the stock Z06 clutch vs. the ZR1 clutch?

Thanks

I don't think you want to go with brass.

Sorry to hear about your motor going. But at least it looks like it's going to be covered under warranty.

If you were on a public road when you lost your engine it would be best to also report it to NHTSA. Others have started to report their blown engines.

They have an "engine valve train" catagory to report failures and defects.

I hope the warranty works for you.
Are you the original owner?
How many miles have you put on the car?

It sounds like the warranty is covering it since you didn't have a tune. I don't blame you for a wanting to get rid of it before the warranty runs out. Come on Christmas bonus so I can just suck it up and do the heads on my 06.

Yes the LS9 is showing excessive guide wear too.

If they don't put a new motor on for you and you want to sell the car as is with no motor, I'd be interested.

They're just not blowing up right and left like the LS7 seems to be.

Mentioning the oil pressure, was there any sort of knock?

1) Are you the original owner?

2) if so, how do you typically use the car?

3) Was there a knock since oil pressure was not rising?

4) was there a "rapping" noise...(not the usual valve train noise the LS7 makes).

I recd info from GM. The best way if valve guide isto listen for a rapping noise....a knock would suggest bearings were starved....
