Default 8 exhaust valves out, 8 new ones in PICS

Having read the many dropped valves threads I decided to have my 65k 07 gone through and I glad I did. Checking with my tuner, RPM Motors in Santa Clarita, CA I went with their "reliability package". Speaking with many of his SoCal customers I heard many success reports from his tracking and street customers who've done this.

Mine is 12/06 built and 1/07 delivered to me with 3 miles. 30k miles were from 6 easy interstate trips to Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise and Corvettes on Woodward events. The rest are mostly from 5-10 mile DD use with only Mobil 1 in it, but no blue smoke and hardly any oil consumption.

Upgrade highlights:
replace all guides with CHE bronze
replace valve springs with Patriot dual
SS exhaust valves
competition valve job
bowl porting
replace rocker arm trunions... Comp Cams
clean up combustion chambers

I had RPM document the condition of the heads and guides. The data sheet shows the guide wear. Theres a short video showing the excessive wear.

I've been having trouble with Photobucket so I'll try to add more pics in replying to this thread.

How bad were the numbers? Were they that far out of spec? Was a dropped valve just a matter of time?

The previous one was the intake runner. Here's the exhaust port.

Now I'll try to find the video showing the valve guide wear.

Something wrong with the guide measurements? You list Intake 1-3-5-7 twice but with different 's and you list Exhaust twice 2-4-6-8 but with different #'s.

Thanks for the info. It would be good to know what those measurements are for the new valves at the start if you have them.

It looks that one set of 1-3-5-7 is intake valves in one head, the other set of 1-3-5-7 the intake valves in the other head.

Same with the exhaust valves. One set of exhaust valve numbers 2-4-6-8 is for one head, the other set for the other head.

I noticed that as well, maybe just a typo. Anyway, it is intersting that the all the exhaust valves were out of spec or almost out of spec, wonder if that is okay for a car with 65K miles? I would like to think that the valves would not be at the wear limit at 65K miles, ought to get at least 100K out of them.

The bigger question is does it support the GM statement regarding valve guide wear on the 08 through 11 models?

One of the guys started this thread for posting in your valve guide wear results.

May want to include these in there too.
