[Z06] How Many Z06 Owners Are Running Solid Stainless Exhaust Valves?
#561
You can add me to the list. My heads were shipped (today) from Speed South in Pelham AL to WCCH to have bronze guides and solid stainless valves installed.

You know, people are not stupid.
They don't have to end up with a hole softball sized hole of their own in the side of the engine blocks before they believe that this is a potential problem which can be avoided with steps towards prevention.
They can look at the last softball sized hole in an LS7 engine block and know that they don't want to sport one of their own, and for about the cost of a set of Michelin Pilot Sport ZPs, they can extricate themselves from candidacy for the dropped stock exhaust valve club.
Less than 2K to prevent a potential 17K out of pocket expense?
You don't need an abacus to tell you that those numbers make sense.
I've said it before. I have seen a lot of air conditioned engine blocks on this forum. But I have not seen a windowed engine block in here yet that JB Weld would fix.
People pay about 2 grand for some of these extended warranties. After they do, the sleep better at night.
But then, they never use them. So at the end of the warranty period, where does all of that money go??? You guessed it. Up the bird's rear end.
What do you call that?
But we're supposed to be somehow less than smart for overhauling something that isn't worn out.
The next question is for rational thinkers only.
People who love to argue and talk crap, need not bother answering it:
The next commercial flight you take, if they found a potential problem with one of the mechanical components of the plane you are about to get on, a part notorious for failure, and implicated in several other failures, do you want them to wait until that component "wears out", before they replace it, or are you going to take the plane which has had that component removed and replaced with one which works?
I mean after all, if it's not "worn out", then why replace it, right?

Melting Slicks
Was the leak up by the head, or down by the collector? Not sure if an exhaust leak would have been detected, but if you want to redo the test, PM or email me and we can set it up.

Will do... Having a lot of work done to the head and I'm not about to try and make over 600whp NA on 93 octane with the stock valves.. MAYBE nothing would happen with the stock exhaust valves, but if SS valves does nothing more than give me a peace of mind, so be it. Adding a 100 shot after I'm use to it as well, so yeah.
Reliable, fast, cheap..... You can't have all three

Here are a few pictures. I did not get any official measurements but I have been told nothing was out of the ordinary or obviously out of spec. Car was healthy. I asked to keep the stock parts so if anyone wants the valves I would be willing to contribute them for measurements or dissection to help other members. Hope to get her back later today since it is so nice out.

Saw this post in the Z06 picture thread by forum member Snake Bite52. Never posted about a failure, but was later looking for a short block, which a blown head gasket should not require unless it was hydro-locked (extreme case).

This was an interesting example of the selection of solid stainless steel exhaust valves in a car built for track duty.
