Getting closer to being a member of the SS Valve Club.

Heads should be done next Friday. If so I will go down and pick them up. I will take some pictures of my heads and of the WCCH facilities.

My core heads had some intake guides in spec but some exhaust guides over .015, beyond what Richard can measure. These heads are from an 06 with only 16K miles on them.

DH, I don't know whether Richard will charge extra, but it would be good to know what the guide clearances are when the rebuild 06 head is finished, and good data for the next rebuild two years down the road.

Nice. My warranty is up in April. Not 100% on my direction but the heads are on the list for sure. I am not sold on the SS so ill probably go with the titanium.

Ricky, multiple of my exhaust guides at 9k miles were at .0148. Rich said the dial was about maxed at that point.

Yes, a few weeks or so before receiving mine, he got a set with ~80k miles and they were in spec. He said he couldn't believe it.

That I don't know. He said that most sets are way out of spec. Some are better than others.

You might want to do a little more reading up.

Not every set of heads that they get are found to be out of spec.

Guys, just a thought. If you want this to be informative and helpful rather than the train wreck previous threads, keep your opinions about warranties and other things irrelevant to facts and data to a minimum. If you don't have data to assist here, don't feel the need to just fill the air...

All of mine were in spec from my understanding.

Good luck Howie.

So are you saying that at 16K miles, the exhaust stem to guide clearance was so bad that it was off the scale?

What is the farthest Richard can measure?

I forgot whose heads you bought.

That .0034 on the bottom of 5 is REALLY close to GM's limit of .0037.

Here is what Charlie found in a brand new set of LS7 heads.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...ls7-heads.html

Confused Garage had 18K miles on his.

These are my original heads measured locally in Western Pennsylvania, and with about 21K miles on them.

WCCH is hardly the only ones seeing excessive guide wear in these cars.

Yes, at 16K 2 of the exhausts were off the scale. Most of the intakes were good.

He told me the outside measurement parameter but I forgot what he said.

Heads are from Joe in Arizona, forgot his handle. (Sure you can find it). He said he would post up on the threads when I got the info. But no cam or track time or oil usage if I remember correctly.

He told me that the only thing consistant about the guide wear is that it is inconsistant.

If you implying that he is intentionally stating wear that isnt there I can tell you he had no motivation to do that. We already discussed and agreed on the work I was having done regardless of the guide wear.

And he told me again I should be good for 100K with my track duty considered.

Yes, yes, I remember now. He had headers, CAI, and tune. None of which should have worn out his guides.

That's what it looked like to me, and I recall someone else attempting to imply that he was making up the numbers.

Other vendors, including Katech themselves, have stated that they have observed excessive guide wear in these cylinder heads.

BTW, here is another one, just in today, every guide worn, and it wasn't Richard who found them. It was a local machine shop.

In my case he was only really concerned with the condition of the heads. He said he checked the bolt holes and some other aspects of the head and told me they were in great shape. The guide wear was just an incidental finding that he wanted me to know.

Hopefully next friday I will pick them up. Still haven't decided on the install date.
