Default Another busted exhaust valve

Here is another Z06 coming apart, its a 2008 with less than 15k miles.

Missing exhaust valve head in number 4

Metal flooded intake manifold

Windowed block

This was a stock Z, the only thing it had was headers and a Corsa exhaust system.

Warranty denied, had headers. I have to admit the owner was running it hard but it was on the street, and all he was doing was a big burnout. Not sure how big or how hard he had twisted the engine but knowing the guy it was likely pretty tight. Never the less the rev limiter should have protected it.

How is that a stock Z?

Sorry about your bad luck though. I guess you meant it didn't have a cam. Intake done as well?

I would imagine you would NEED to tune if you put on headers. I could be wrong though.

I'm curious of the extent of the mods though. Cats still on the car? What tune? Intake done? Any clue on how much RWHP it was putting down?

to get optimal gains out of headers you need a tune but it is not an absolute must the car still runs and drives fine without one.

Why bother doing an exhaust without the tune? If you are going that far to void your warranty you might as well go all the way.

I would of warrantied it with the headers; Although, it must have the stock tune. That is not up to the dealer, It is up top PQC. It must be documented on the repair order to get paid.

before the owner had it towed to the dealer he should have put the factory exhaust manifolds back on and re-flashed the ECM back to a stock tune, if that is possible once the motor has gone KA-BOOOOm.

There are members of this very forum that have done this and had warranty replaced engines...

That was going to be my question as well.

This car wasn't stock.

You think he went to the trouble of putting headers on it and then not having it tuned?

But on the chance that he was still running the stock tune after the headers, so as to not adversely affect his warranty, well, a lot of good that did him.

I had my car with header + CAI without a tune for a while. I have just bought the car and thought I will keep the stock tune in case something happens. I also know another guy with 31k miles with headers and CAI and no tune. they exist and its faster than a stock Z06!

Very unfortunate.

I was convinced reading all the valve threads on here that I need to pull my heads and send them to WCCH, then I talked myself out of it because I'm not too sure about increasing the weight of the valvetrain. Now seeing two valve heads drop recently I'm starting to lean to pulling the heads. Stock or modified, look at the damage. Is it worth it keeping the hollow stem exhaust valves? I hardly think so.

Actually, the dealer, and GM claimed abuse with the amount of tire rubber found in the rear wheel wells. At least that is what they told me. Also I have found in most cases here, headers with high flow CATs will void the warranty, the claim is that one would alter the emissions systems of the car with the aftermarket headers and CATs.

happened to a guy I know. a C6 with only 10k miles. clutch problem. car had some rubber in the rear and they denied any warranty work due to that!!! the rubber was from couple burnouts at the drag strip on street tires!!!!!!!!!!!!

so yes I believe what he said!

This is the second instance here that was at two different local dealers.
