You know a year ago everyone was saying that these Z06s that were popping or dropping valves or broken this broken that were driver error or just by chance. But you know what there sure seems to be ALOT of Z06s that have gone since last year also.
Why wouldnt someone just buy an LS3 vette and throw a roots blower on it. Or do full bolt ons and mild cam to get around 500rwhp.
This isnt to start a **** storm but Im sure thinking twice about wanting a Z06 now

We all know my story... I bought a used 07 Z06 for $46k and sold it 3 years later for $46k, and never had a single problem. I took the money and put it towards a brand new 2012 GT-R. the very next day it broke down and continued to give me issues every week. car was finally fixed and I didn't hesitate one second to buy another Z.

I bought my Z knowing about valvetrain issues, but a GS was not an option for me. I was not going to settle for a GS. I've settled on all my previous cars, not this time.

The Z06 is a better all around car. It drives totally different, is wider, has better brakes, tires, and the handling is night and day, and don't get me started on the looks. I would NEVER own a standard C6. I actually think they are ugly. If the base C6 were the only vette available, I would not be a Vette owner.
According to your logic, a car is nothing besides a HP number and if that is the case why even buy a Corvette? Just buy a used Mustang and throw a supercharger on it and save yourself $40k. My buddy has a 10 second 1992 mustang and it cost him $15k with car and mods..done!

Because I was able to buy one with less than 9000 miles on it 100 STOCK and SPOTLESS for 1/2 the NEW PRICE. PURELY ECONOMICS and PLEASURE. Its a piece of history......

In July of 2008, I ordered an '09 coupe from a local dealer. 2 weeks later I found an '08 3LZ Z06 for a great price and 0% financing. Cancelled the '09 ordered nad my dealer traded for the '08 Z.
I'm so glad I got the '08 Z.
Haven't dropped a valve yet.

Used Ls3 cars go for $33,000+ roughly. If your someone like myself who would never be happy with the narrow body, then your looking at another $7,000+(very conservative estimate) to get the body where you want, then you still have to get wheels/tires etc to make it work. Then the cost of a blower&tune is going to be another $8k if you do the work yourself. If your in a smog state like CA then thats where your mods end.
So to recap, for me to get the look and performance of a Z06, Ill spend about $50,000 to get something that still doesnt have as good a chassis/handling as the Z. Personally Ill wait till I see if/when the price drops on them when the c7 releases, and then get one in the mid 30's and swap some heads , and oil control parts and be around 40K, and if the motor lets go Ill still be around the same cost as I would with a ls3 car. Not to mention If I want to track the car(biggest draw to the vette for me) then the ls3 with a blower will let loose eventually anyways, and Ill be into it another ten grand.

Having had a 2005 with Z51 package and now a Z06, the engine is not the only difference. There are suspension and brake upgrades that are really impressive with the Z06. I didn't expect there to be as much difference just in general driving as there is. I drive my Z06 every day and the street driving of a Z06 is a whole lot different than my Z51 LS2 was to say nothing of the power. There's a lot more to a Z06 than just the horsepower.

Just change the retainers so the valves dont drop, thats really what the whole fuss is about .The motor other than that wont let go.Its a cheap, quick fix.ls7 is a 427 and that is in deed a piece of history.

The used Z is great bargain. But if you noticed prices are really firm on them. My purchase for a 2008 Z-06 with 14k miles for 45,000 in 2/2010.
Has not lost much value! Less than $5,000.00 When the same car lost a lot more than 25,000 the first two years and is used the second you drive it off the lot!

I own a 04 C5 with headers, intake , head and cam, rims etc...car is sick, slides nice and controlled thru 2nd gear, also, own a 08 Z06, same mods , except a LS9R Clutch instead of the Trq Converter I had installed in the C5, well, these two cars couldn't be further apart!!the Z06 is off the chart!! really a race car on the street!!, fast, oh my God Fast!! like some of the other posts mention, take a ride in a c6 z06, let's put it this way, my C5, I can go hop in it, and go as crazy as I wish, no issues! car in control, my Z06, Hop in it, major level of respect demanded, it is exteremely powerfull, have to be carefull, it wants to get out from under me, so, as fun and as fast as it is, I have to be carefull. Good luck, you can't lose either one.
