Blew my motor - 07 40k miles
Dropped a valve and sent the piston threw the other side. Popped around 6000RPMS in 2nd. Motor had a cam and headers at the time.
Luckily when it happened I was on the way to Quality Motorsports and was able to coast to within a block of the shop.
Replacement:
-Forged Lingenfelter 427
-WCCH heads
-Quality Motorsports Mamba cam
I was making around 550 with the Black widow cam and I'm now making 555 with 10:1 compression.

The same thing is happening with stock motors...they are dropping valves...iit's got to be in the heads...to many failures. and I find it hard to believe that these shops don't know the root cause modded or not...I've had hotrods for 25 years and never dropped a valve untill my z....glad I'm out of mine

Not sure what caused the failure
My plan is to slap a maggie on it next year.

The stock ones, I'll give you, that is concerning to see, but pull out the modded and tuned cars like yours, AND this one in this thread that had a cam for 8,000 miles, and the % of failures is very small.
Look at the other thread of the guy who got 24,000 track miles out of his car until the motor blew, his engine was stock. Richie Rich Z06 same thing and countless others.
Bottom line, the motor was designed and engineered and tuned a certain way from the factory... you go out of that realm and you play at your own risk. I know you learned that lesson the hard way.
To the OP, very sorry to hear about your motor. What kind of springs where you running with that cam? You don't know what caused the valve to fail ? Just curious.

If I wanted more horse power from this engine I would leave in intact as it came from the factory and up grade with a super charger.
I like the Callaway SC 652 and as far as I know there are no issues with this set up. At least the last time I talked with Callaway there wasn't.
BS to all those mods that blow up in your face. To many hands in the pie to insure this thing will fail at some point. Sooner then later.
