Z06 Trunk Latch.....
Should my 2007 Z06 trunk go down to a catch and then be pulled slowly down by some mechanism or should I be doing what I have been doing for the last three years which is leaning down hard on it to latch shut ?

The corvette trunk latch is a real piece of trash. My 2007 sucks, my parents 2006's used to suck. The trick when closing is to have a window or door open. Then the trunk will close all the way. When the door and windows are completely shut, the air pressure in the cabin doesn't allow the trunk to close. My 2010 doesn't have these problems.

My 2006 Z06 has one as well!!
So, like me, you must have added it on - because the Z06 did not come with the auto power pull down latch until the 2009 model year!!
It wasn't available as an option or on the higher trim levels - it just was not available at all from the factory until the 2009 Z06 came out.

I am absolutely positive that my 08 has the auto assist closing feature. I set the trunk lid down and push it until it clicks, then the auto close takes care of the rest. Who are you to tell me what I have anyway? as I said the 06 that I just purchased not even a week ago does not...but my 08 DOES.

Not hard - but I think it's much easier getting used parts from a wreck.

The base C6 has had the pull down hatch latch since day one. My early 2005 coupe (built in Aug 2004) had it, and I really liked it. When I got my '06 Z06 and it didn't have it, I really missed it. That's why I added it, as chronicled in that thread I posted the link to in my earlier post.
The early Z06's also did not have (and weren't available as options) the adjustable lumbar support and side bolsters or the power passenger seat. I also added all that (the "Kawal mod") to my '06 Z06 to make it the comfortable GT car that should have been available from the factory from its introduction.
Oh well, you can now get all that good stuff in a new Z06 from the factory!!!
