Halltech Carbon Fiber exhaust tips for the Akrapovic Exhaust
Tonight in the pursuit of weight reduction I weighed the Akrapovic Titanium tips at 4.75 lbs (4) without the clamps.
I think our carbon fiber shop can pop out carbon fiber duplicates of this tip and save over 3.5 lbs in the process.
The Carbon fiber version sold by Akrapovic are just one skin wrapped around the titanium tip, and do reduce weight, but are still heavy.
Check the price for them: $1200/ set of 4 and soon $1400 a set, so forget it.
Monday I will check feasibility and do some due diligence, but wonder if there is any interest in these for much less than the Akra pricing.

Depending very much on pricing I would think you could potentially have quite a bit of interest. Would they be available in smaller than Akra sizes? That too could be a factor, since there are quite a few folks like me who don't care for the visual impact of the current largeness.

We are not using the Akrapovic tips for our mold, but rather our own 4" tip in pure high temp carbon fiber. We expect the finished units to weigh less than 1 lb for all four, vs. 6 lbs for the 4 Akrapovics we have now.
Interestingly, these tips may be slip ons and weigh close to the Akrapovics exhaust clamps.
The tips will end up 101mm or 4". This is the same size as other exhaust tips on the market, and will be 2.5" i.d to slide over any 2.5" exhaust system.
We're in the process of welding now, but plan on having the mold done by March.
No price point right now, but we are targeting $150 to $200 each.

Which one?
We have a couple of choices for a tip design. Both will slide right over the 2.5" exhaust pipes.
This is the stainless steel version, which we will use for the mold. The carbon fiber tips will be high strength very high temperature cured dry carbon fiber used in military applications. 350F to 375F temp range.
One has a 2.5 inlet to 3.5" then 4.5". I like the looks of this one:
The other one is similar to the Akrapovic tips with a rolled end. 2.5" inlet to 4" outlet:
Opinions?

Was looking at doing the same thing. Wish Akra offered stainless tips for their stainless system. Even if they were $100/ea, we'd still be $1000 ahead.

The mold is in the works for this week. The first one goes on our Akrapovics for fit and finish, then three more.
We will only be able to make 1 set per week at first. If they become popular, we'll make three more molds. Our hose clamps are the turbo T-bolt types which are also much lighter than the Akras.
The final mold tip is 4" (101.6mm) vs the 125mm Akras 4.92". Same size as the Borla, Magnaflows, Corsas, ect.
High temp carbon fiber cured at 375F will be used for durability. It is actually the same exact material used on the Pratt and Miller Daytona engine parts. At least the first 4 will be from that roll.

We have a deposit on our website which will determine first come first out shipping.
We will charge only the $100 deposit, which is fully refundable if the part does not meet with your standards, or the costs is more than you want to pay. It will be applied to the order if you ok the order by email. Our goal is 1/2 the cost of the Akrapovics.

Our latest minus sign:
All four tips in pure high temp carbon fiber=.64 lbs (no clamps) 1.2lbs with T-bolt clamps. We have been trying to find titanium clamps, but they are no longer made.
290.3 grams for all four tips. (6 lbs for the Akrapovic Titanium tips with the heavy steel clamps)
We are looking at T-bolt clamps which will put the weight at 1.2lbs exactly saving 4.8 lbs off the Akrapovic exhaust system. The first tip fits very tightly and needed some clearancing, but it may be possible to install this with an adhesive to keep them from being stolen. The key words though would be permanent and one shot. Each could be pre-fit and some sanding of the exhaust surface to prep, with a small dab of Bonduit.
The carbon fiber is so stiff, that even with slits, they will likely not tighten with a hose clamp. Looking for alternatives to clamps before we release these.
Pricing will be $224.15 each. Definitely not cheap, but this high temp carbon fiber tip is the real deal and looks much better in my opinion than the cartoon-like ricer tips on the Akras.

Looks good.....do you have pictures of all 4 installed on the Akra system? My concern is that the tips spacing is going to look funny with your smaller tips. I am thinking that maybe the tips will appear too far apart with smaller tips. Akra has the outlet pipes spaced appropriately for their larger tips and the smaller ones I am afraid will look silly.
Would love to see all 4 on a Akra system....
Thanks for all the hard work,
