New personal best for the rookie.
Went to MIR to get a taste of some good air.
So first pass I am thinking, ok this is a new-to-me track and I dont know how the traction will be since its a colder temp than I have ever been in....... Maybe I should launch at like 3.5K and work my way up. I get up to the line and said screw it. 4200 launch and it dead hooked. Well my clutch didnt like that and it didnt fully release but OMG it still pulled like a freight train and like I never felt before (what a rush). I look up at the board and see a 1.52 60' while I half heartedly shift to second because I didnt think the clutch would hold the 1-2 since it was still half way to the floor. Clutch came back up after the shift. Now I'm thinking the run might still be good so I start loading my gears like normal. I get back to the pits to get the timeslip.....10.14 @137. Holly sh$t this car has a shot at 9's today!
So now I am excited because the car had more in it and I really thought I could pull a 1.4 short time to put it in the 9's. Well the next coulple runs the clutch was slipping but still cutting good 60's. One run I cut a 1.51 and it felt good down the track and when I shifted to 4th......clutch didnt release. Still went 10.43 @114. Then I had a batch of bad driving. I missed a gear on 3 passes in a row. Not normal for me but I must have been rushing the shifts or pushing a little sideways pressure on the shifter.
Wow, I am making this story way to long. Anyways, I decide to go for one more pass. I tried something different on the next launch thanks to Fartpipes advice. It was about a 4400 launch and felt great. The board says 1.45. This is it, my 10.0 or 9.9 pass!!! Shifts felt great and I didnt feel the clutch slipping like before. I come back to the pits and no one is cheering so I knew I didnt hit 9's. Total bummer, it was a 10.18. The clutch must have slipped and I didnt realize. The slippage had to have come between the 60' and the 1/8. On the 1.52 60' I was 6.54 @108 in the 1/8. On the 1.45 I was 6.55 @ 107. Something happened there that killed the run. I am positive the car had a 9 in it with a better clutch even with me driving it. I am calling ACT tomorrow. It should hold 800tq and it acted up on every run. Maybe thats why they call it an ACT. lol Anyone have an ACT at over 500rwhp with it holding the power at the track? Maybe something is just wrong with mine.
In retrospect, I really feel my car was p$ssed off because someone farted all over it or it would have went faster. His screenname should be changed to "Fartsonyourcarpipe". True story
It was a great day regardless and got to hang out with some really good guys that helped me out alot. My goal was to learn from some really good drivers and maybe hit a new PB. Well I did both.
On to the mods.....
TSP LS7s 242/250/.650" 114
Kooks 1 7/8" with high flow cats
160 therm
Vararam
ACT twin
Ported LS7 intake
315/30/18 ET streets from '07. They are a little dried out but they cut a 1.45 so I hate to replace them.
The car does have a set of LS7 heads that I bought used because they had upgraded valves/guides. I was told they were ported but they didnt pick up any power on the dyno and I had no specs on them.
I was running full street trim and the car weighed in at 3345 with my 190lb butt in it.
Here is the 10.14 slip compared to the 10.18 that should have at least been a very low 10.0 IMO.
I know a 10.1 sounds like I know what I am doing but I dont and I have ALOT to learn. If you were at the track you would have seen that. Even after yesterday I think I now have about 40 passes in a car. The main thing I need is more seat time. I have taken much advise from Ranger, Gary, Kyle, and Bruce and I owe them a big thanks.

man that is awesome! great consistant launches too! you're in the 9's as soon as you get your shifting down. hell, pull out your passenger seat and you'd have already been there!

WOW, WOW, WOW !!!!!!
Congrats, D-Rod....that's killing it at the 60' .
Your car has 9's written all over it
Wish MIR was a wee bit closer to my home to give that track and the incredable air a crack.
Just a bit too far for a long weekend drive

Thanks, it was an honor watching you row the gears.

Congrats!!! That is really moving for those mods! Amazing.
What time of day was the run?
Do you have dyno numbers? I'm going to use this to get my buddy GTODoug (who has similar mods) out to the track with me.

There is alot that can be done to make this thing faster. Ported Fast, ported TB, milled heads, lightweight wheels and skinnies, driver mod, clutch, and weight reduction. This has been a budget build so far and I hope it stays that way. LOL

The pass was at 11:38. On a mustang dyno it put down 518rwhp. Corrected it was like 521 if I remember correctly. Before the heads and ported intake it made 515 in a little worse DA. That dyno does read lower than others. Bone stock I made 425.

That is amazing...dead hooking at that DA...
Hats off to you for driving it to those times. It's amazing a h/c z06 with a clutch is tickling 9's. A set of skinnies and seat out and that would have made the difference!
Were there any other records set?

I didn't see that he was running a cam, but then again I never did the reading for Marines MCI.
Did they say anything to you about not having a cage? That's where I go, but I haven't taken the Z because I'm relatively certain I can bust faster than 11.50 stock and they kicked me off before for no cage.

No nitrous. I will admit that I have made more HP on a dynojet before I put the heads and ported intake on it. It made 527 then. I always go by mustang dyno numbers though. I think they are more realistic. My car made 425 in stock form on that same mustang dyno. IMO that is an accurate number for a Z06. Remember I live at over 1,000ft though.

Congrats! It's one thing for a clutch to be rated to statically hold a certain amount of power and then another to half engage it with a drag strip style launch, which is where the most abuse takes place
