A SSB Carbon is available at Phil Smith Chevrolet in Ft Lauderdale
Listed at 105K and selling for 89K.
May go for it if the price comes down some more

Still not clear to me though, is it lighter or heavier than a base Z06?

Yes. $3000 cash, $3000 because I own a Corvette and $1000 in GM card rebates. I would imagine that I have about the lowest priced carbon. The MSRP was a shade over $100000. Crazy!! And in three hears it will be worth $50000 which is super crazy.

Good to know. I've been trying to talk myself out of trading in my CG 09 Z with 3800 miles on it for an IO Carbon.

While I do not own a 2011 CE, I do own a 2011 with Z07 and Carbon package. Here are a couple of article quotes; the first one is from GM: "Available CFZ Carbon Fiber Package, with black carbon fiber splitter, rockers, roof panel and body-color, ZR1-style full-width rear spoiler." http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/chev..._Z06/2011.html

Thus, my roof panel is carbon and here's a quote from a marketing article on the Limited Edition Carbons.

"A carbon-patterned engine cover also is included, as are black headlight surrounds, door mirrors, carbon-fiber ZR1 rocker extensions, a carbon-fiber ZR1 front splitter, and numbered door decals for when you take your Carbon to the track. A raised carbon-fiber hood like the ZR1’s (but without the plastic window to the engine bay), a carbon roof panel, and a body-color, full-width rear spoiler round out the exterior mods. The only colors offered are Inferno Orange and a subdued Supersonic Blue, the latter being new for 2011."

I also believe that on both of these models the carbon roof panels have magnesium supports or brackets.

Anyone else who can further elucidate this topic is encouraged to do so. Thanks.

So the limited Edition Carbon Edition Z06 cars have carbon fiber engine covers? I don't remember seeing that. I thought they were red.

Well, they definitely dont have these...mine are red just like any Z06. As far as the roof panel, I will happy to be corrected if it is indeed carbon, but as noted, the GM press release also said that those engine covers were, and they are not.

There are two distinct ways to visually present carbon fiber. One is the way you are referring to, i.e., the carbon fiber look. The other way is to make a component and paint it, so it's carbon fiber for weight reduction and strength (better in both ways than fiberglass), but is painted a particular body color, etc. The splitter, side rails and roof panel on my Z06/Z07 are all carbon fiber, but GM elected to paint them all high gloss black. Hope this helps.

That is correct, and in the early press release photos of the Carbon Edition, the engine covers were presented as the "carbon fiber" look. The blue color was also different, it looked like a combination of Jetstream blue and Lemans blue. The production Supersonic Blue was quite different than those pictures. My Carbon Edition, like all others, has a body colored roof panel, while yours is black. I'm still not sure if it is indeed carbon or not.

I originally held the same opinion of the SS Blue color as you shared, and believe the studio photo shoot was PhotoShoped to enhance the appearance of those ad photos. At first, I really wanted that color on my Zee. But, I have evolved in my thinking to very much like the way in which my SSB appears under differing ambient lighting conditions. In early morning, late afternoon, and/or under dark cloudy conditions it appears a menacing dark gray that works very well with the black exterior trims and gray wheels. As the lighting progresses to bright direct sunlight, the color palette evolves slowly into the metallic blue hues. Awesome. Now in retrospect, I think overall I'm happier with the color I have, and would not be as happy if I had the color depicted in the GM ad photo, since the hues in that color would not morph as the true SSB color does.

On two occasions now, I experienced the big OOPS with my ride, specifically, I slightly damaged the splitter. The second event was when a concrete curb scraped along the passenger side rail. I can say that I verified that both of those components were as GM stated, definitely carbon fiber.

Yes all of the special carbon edition cars have a unique vin sequence different than the standard Z06's. The vin's were produced in sequence as the cars were made so if you have a vin of 9x digits and then B5600001 you were car #1, vin B5600050 was car #50 off the line etc. etc. etc. all the way up to vin B5600252 which was car #252 and should have been the last car off of the line of the total Carbon Edition production run of 85x made in IO, 166 made in SSB and 1x made in Black.
