Thx for the pics

I just got my kit a few days ago

I'm going to experiment around and see if I can get the IR on the head unit to work properly either mounted behind the grill - projecting through the openings, or possible down by the openings (either the left or right) of the nose splitter.

Oldfly: Where did you find the grommet to run the wires from the head unit into the the car on the Z?

I didn't use a grommet I ran it along the inside of the fender and under the rubber molding and behind the kick panel and mounted the unit at the fuse panel. The only problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get it calibrated I'm talking to James at SouthernCarPart about the problem now he's working on a solution.

Here is an install on a C5...pretty much the same thing for the C6.

Some pics of where I put the sensor and complete install here, Curb Alert Installation....here are a few of the pictures, more at the link above.

I will get more pictures up this weekend, just wanted to get you something to give you an idea.

Jim - I am SO in with this. I have stock Z07 (2007) and have a big problem with the curbs. Quick question, though: I AutoX and track the car. How does the sensor get applied so it won't blow off during my high-speed runs or cornering?

Also, what do people use for the REAR of their Vettes? I would love to have one for the Rear also. Possible?

It uses nothing more than double sided tape for the sensor. It is the same 3M tape that is used to put on spoilers and other body panels, it will not come off if the surface is clean well prior to adhesion.

Sure, you can put one on the back also if you want. Will work just the same as it does on the front.

Thanks,

Jim

couple of questions..

what is the viewing angle of the sensor? i.e. if approaching off-center, where maybe only the front right was in danger of hitting, would a center mounted sensor know?

how many sensors can be hooked up to a single monitor? or do you need a complete system for each sensor? i.e. for front and rear coverage, or up to 3 sensors up front if answer to question 1 reveals a center mounted sensor couldn't save the front corner alone..

thanks,
mikey

I have mine mount on the lower right hand side of the carbon fiber splitter, pointing toward the center of the car, if you pull into a angled parking space you need to be careful .

Are you asking for the horizontal or vertical angles?

The control module can only power/monitor one sensor.

horizontal viewing.. i.e. 90 degrees would be 45 degrees left and right off center straight ahead

within what viewing angle does the sensor detect obstacles?

It is a straight beam (like a laser pointer) but the beam size if about the size of a dime.

So, to answer your question, the obstacle would need to be almost directly in front of the sensor to be detected as the side vision is limited.

Default Curb Alert Working

Ok I have been testing my new location for my Curb Alert for the past few weeks, and the location I have it in now works perfect for me, I do need to be careful when pulling into and angled parking spot such as the Sonic Driven, here are a few picture's , on a straight in parking spot with a 4 to 6 inch curb it works perfect.
Would like to thank Jim at SouthernCarParts for being such a great guy with this product and also the person behind the making of this product, both stand up guy's.
Thanks
David

Excuse me! That's not why we back our Vette's into parking spots. It's so they cannot be towed away, and for show purposes. Not every situation allows us to be able to back into a parking spot.
