I am wondering if human error on installation is a culprit in any of the buzzing/rattling shifters.

I installed an MGW shifter "new style" & replaced the shifter box in my 06'Z....I get shifter rattle from 2500-4000 rpm then quiets down.....from what I've read (and I've read a lot of threads on this) some do, some don't. My stock shifter rattled till I had the shifter & box replaced by the dealer, but the rattle returned once I installed the MGW. I love the MGW but the rattle is a bit annoying.
The rattle problem stems from the transmission, mountings, & everything in between, it's not caused by the shifter, the MGW or any aftermarket picks it up because of how well there built. The stock one is a real sloppy not well made shifter which in turn doesn't transfer the rattle, you just don't feel it but it's there.

I installed an MGW in my '09 Z06 last March. One year and about 7500mi later it's still quiet. And that's with the OEM **** as well as a variety of aftermarket *****. Go figure.

Basically they send you a new one, you install it and return the old one.

I got no rattle for the first year, then it came at cruise speeds in 5th gear. Installed the c6 box and it did not help. Bought the race **** from mgw and it is gone. I left the c6 box in and experience no imprecision of any kind in shifting. It actually absorbs vibration that was there with the z06 box. Happy now!

I have been communicating with George, and he is saying that it is basically a MUST to replace the shifter box from the Z06 to a C6 in order not to have any buzzing/rattling. I will install the shifter and box in the next few weeks.

Everyone thinks that some MGWs rattle and some don't. But actually the difference is in the car, not the shifter. Flywheels, clutches, crankshafts, harmonic balancers, and many other engine and driveline components get balaced after they're made. The total stackup of tolerances of all these parts results in some cars having more driveline vibration, some less. Stock shifters have pliable parts to dampen out these vibrations. Aftermarket shifters eliminate the rubber, etc insulation for a more precise feel. But then there's nothing to dampen vibrations; the cars with a higher vibration level end up with rattling shifters. That's why George recommends replacing the solid-mount Z06 box with a rubber-mount C6 box. It will raise the threshold where vibration starts to cause rattling.
Some early 2006 Z06s had rattling stock shifters so GM made a change to the shifter. Midway through 2006 they issued a service bulletin with the new part#. My early 2006 shifter never rattled so I never had it updated. My 2 year old MGW has never rattled either (with the stock Z06 shifter box). My 2009 MGW is no different than anybody else's; it's just that my driveline parts apparently stacked up pretty smoothly
