Default 10.620 @ 132.39 Stock Clutch

Still running the stock clutch, but I can tell she's about had enough. Car is making 545 rwhp 505 rwtq running on 345/30/19 NT05R rear tires. Was hoping for better numbers. This was my 2nd pass of the night, first pass did not get a very good burnout, so I let off. Ran the 10.620 on the second pass and on the third pass, my clutch started to glaze over...and by the time the clutch came back to life the track prep disappeared during the regular test and tune Friday night racing.

Here is the pass:
60' 1.727
330' 4.613
660' 6.940
MPH 107.03
1000' 8.932
1320' 10.620
MPH 132.39

I have been running 17psi in the rear tires, stock front wheels/tires, and trying to leave around 3200rpm or so, very slight slip then quickly down to full throttle. Shift points are right around 7000rpm in each gear.

Mods:
QM Black Mamba Cam
Ported LS7 intake manifold
LG 1 3/4" Longtubes w/ high-flow cats
Stic It Performance CAI
Stock exhaust w/ muffler mod & Mild2Wild
Hurst short shifter
80# Injectors and E85 (E70 with winter blend) Trying this out before I do the heads and end up required to run E85 100%.

Stock heads, stock clutch, stock suspension, stock gears, etc...

I think the clutch is about done trying to put the power down, so I will be switching to the new LS9R clutch from Katech as well as going with Carlos' 13.5:1 compression heads for the E85. Hopefully those 2 mods will allow me to get down into the bottom 10's n/a. I love the 1 3/4" headers for the snappy throttle and 1/8 mile pull...but you can see that I think they are kind of choking the car down on the big end. My best 1/8 mile MPH was 107.97 which is more in line with cars trapping 137mph or so and I am trapping around 132-133mph.

It looks to me like your car is bottom 10's already and with Carlos' addition it will be a 9 second ride. Not without a good amount of seat time however.

This was at Baytown. I was hoping to run at sealy today but they cancelled their event so I went to Baytown last night instead. Typical street car crap with trucks, civics, etc.. Just dragging water around and messing up the prep.

Not sure how much my clutch is hurting me. Hoping to see some 1.50 60' times with a clutch and better launch. I think a clutch will get me down into the 10.3-10.4 range. Curious to see how much faster the heads will get me.

Congrats amigo

One thing some people realize and that is: some times a clutch on its last leg does not always do its job as the vehicle travel down the track. This could be hurting your trap speed and ET's to some degree...more so than the headers I think. Again, assuming your clutch is as sick as I think. I remember that baby was starting to cry uncle when I had it on the dyno back then

Give me call when you get a chance, I may know some one who is selling a used set of 1 7/8 that may sell it really cheap! Perhaps you'll break even from the sell of your set. Also remember, when doing heads, the headers must come off and also when doing a clutch swap so no charges on the exhaust installation...saving is good, paying more is bad MMMMKAY

Thanks,
Carlos

Great times CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! You can definitely see either the clutch or something happens up top cause if you trapped 107mph in the 1/8 and 132mph in the 1/4mile somethings dropping off. The clutch could be lightly hazing on you.

I agree with the above! Carlos sounds like he has a good plan/setup for you! Breaking even on the headers (almost) sounds like a no brainer, and a new clutch should get you the results you expect BEFORE you do heads!!

I like when mods are done in stages & you wait for your best results from those mods, before modding further....Did I say "mod" too many times?? lol

Good luck, and as Robz said, seat time will CERTAINLY help. Gotta get that 60' down.

No, I got a pretty enjoyable *** chewing. Then you just smile, nod, promise to only run 1/8 mile, etc...until you get another good pass, then you take another reaming before they kick you out.

I'm not sure what the stock clutch will take with 550whp....it is pretty sensitive to start slipping with even the tiniest bit of aggression. 3500 and it is dead in the water, 3200 seems to be tolerable..I'm hoping with a good clutch, I will be able to leave harder and get the short time down. I'm just curious what is going on with the big end.

It may be just the clutch. So swap it out and retest before you go nutz looking for an issue.

Also, to be sure your mph is down get at least 10-15 passes, evaluate the data, and factor in the da. (I've seen trap speeds vary 5-6 mph on similar air days.)

I would also do the normal simple maintenace things like cleaning the air filter just to do so.

10-15 full passes would take me going to Baytown about 6 or 7 separate times since I am not legal.

My MPH is consistently around 132-133mph. My previous best was a 10.69 @ 132.75. It may be the clutch, what I may do is buy the 1 7/8" headers, buy the LS9R clutch, have those swapped out, then try again before I do the heads.

That's a decent plan, let me know so I can get you what you need and at a decent price

You have my number...

Thanks,

If you can data log a few runs, you'd know if the clutch is slipping. Sounds like it is your limiting factor & holding you back. Carlos said it was in trouble on the dyno, and that's only going hard in 1 gear! Imagine what a burnout, launch then full throttle, & 3 gear changes is doing to it at the track!
I think you know what you need to do next.

Ron

I'll let you know Carlos. Do you think I would need to re-tune for the larger diameter headers and clutch?

Did you get any video of the run? I was watching video of my car with the stock clutch in shortly before going to the Monster Stage 3 and I started noticing what looked like the car smoking after shifts but now I'm pretty sure it was clutch dust due to the car doesnt smoke like that with the Monster clutch in.
