Default Off to drive the CTS-V Coupe

I know that there are some folks in the forum who have the best of both worlds, owning a Z and a CTS or CTS-V. I have been following, through the Caddy e-mails, the bringing of the CTS-V Coupe to market. Long story short..It's off to Monicello Motor Club for three classroom and three track sessions tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m., on an invitation (no charge) from Cadillac. If anyone is interested in the car or the track, I will report back.
They are also having the last track session with in-car pix, which I will post (if I don't end up in the run-off!!)

Good luck, you're going to have a blast. I own a sedan V and can tell you that you are in for a treat. The car is awesome to say the least. Enjoy.

I hope the V is a whole lot better than the base CTS coupe,
We waited a year for them,,, finally drove one and wasn't that
impressed. Came home with a 335i BMW 6sp manual.

We have a 335i and they are AWESOME cars. Never drove a CTSV so I can not comment between the two. The CTSV is a contender when it comes time to replace the 335i.

I ran with a CTS-V sedan at Road America last April. If anyone thinks the CTS-V (coupe or sedan) can't hang with a Z06 on a road course you need to actually get nose to tail on a BIG 4.2 mile road course with one.

Check your egos at the door, settle into those fabulous RECARO's and see what 550 pounds of torque can feel like. Oh and those BREMBO's can handle the CTS-V weight all day long. I'm in the mood for a CTS-V coupe but want AWD.

Enjoy and am looking forward to your review.

Hm. No ego here, just direct experience with both cars on the same track. There's no way in God's green Earth that a CTS-V (coupe or sedan) will hang with a Z06 on a road course. It'll have its work cut out for it to hang with a Z51-equipped LS3 Corvette coupe.

That is, of course, until the differential in the V overheats. Which, if driven even partially aggressively, will. Quickly.

The Brembos are superb. The Recaros: beyond good. The table-top flat torque curve is wicked. It's a 4200lb porker of a car that does a phenomenal job at what it was intended for: meet or exceed the best from Bimmer, Audi, et al. But it's not a replacement for a Z06.

Z06 with a standing start at the N'Ring - 7:42.
CTS-V with a running start at the N'Ring - 7:59

I was really looking forward to the CTS-V Coupe, until I saw one a couple weeks ago.

Real bulky looking front, slab sides, and a tail end that looks really.....

Well......I'll hold my tongue and let others report on what they think of the styling.

The interior I saw did look FANTASTIC!!!

It's an interesting car (coupe), but I think it falls into the same Grand Touring category as the SL Mercedes as well as some others: it's a two door car that looks sporty, is fast, but isn't a sports car.

If I am going to get a two door car, it's going to be a true sports car. That said, I would be all over a new CTS-V sedan, if I was shopping for a more practical vehicle.

I had a CTS sedan for two years and was actually pretty disappointed in it myself. But I have driven a V version and I'll say it fixes virtually everything I didn't like about mine (an no, hp was not the issue for what I used it for).

I've got it down to a CTS-V coupe or an E-Class 6.3 AMG w/sport diff.

The coupe only weighs 15 lbs less than the sedan. I have an '09 CTS-V, and enjoy driving it just as much as my Z06. We also had an '08 CTS V6 before, the V and the base do not even remotely compare.

Base CTS w/ 304 hp was just a comfy cruiser. CTS-V is like "holy crap, this thing moves!" Much different driver experience.

Aha - I figured it out!!!

Cadillac hired the Prius design team to style the exterior of the CTS-V Coupe!!!

They nailed the roofline and tail end in profile!!!

They just bulked up the front until it looked like a Chrysler 300, and did that really weird "pointy" treatment to the azz end, and voilà - they had their coupe design!!

And it looks just as smooth, beautiful, sexy, stylish, aerodynmic, and fast as that great looking machine that they cloned!!!

I have not liked the looks of the coupe from the moment I saw the concept - and don't forget I had the sedan version at the time. You, my friend, have nailed it

Hey nineball... Can you share your source? I've been looking literally everywhere (yes, even the cadillac website, "NA" is listed) and I cannot seem to find a concrete answer on the actual curb weight of the V coupe.

Inside Line tested one and their "as tested weight" was 4200lbs. so that should put it under 4200lbs or more than 30lbs. lighter than a the V sedan.
