Been called out by a Shelby GT 500
Ok guys and girls I've been called out by a modded (659rwhp) Shelby Gt 500 for a friendly coworker Chevy vs Ford company match up... I put down 540rwhp in my ZO6... We are both on street tires... I know he has the horsepower advantage and I have the weight advantage... We both know our cars very well... First question should I run him at a punch or a dig... I've never raced one of GT500's... caught a ton of other cars on the road but not one as modded that I know of... I know this is going to be tight.... Anyone race one as modded as this and or have any advice?
Thanks guys and girls

from a dig on street tires it's definitely a drivers race...I say roll on him and let the aerodynamics play in your favor imho it takes atleast 100hp more for a terminator cobra to stand a chance, let alone a heavier/less aerodynamic gt500...noticed your local, this going down Sat nite?

youre gonna walk him out, i beat a 650whp 2010 shelby with a KB mamouth on it in my K&N intake only c6z. Then the guy came back with 760whp and beat me back haha. BTW these were all from 50-60 rolls on a private air strip...

In either case, I think he is yours. There is no way he can hook up that amount of power with street tires. He might as well have 2000 HP, the result will be the same.

Racing a Whippled Terminator (say 580 RWHP) from a 50 MPH roll can prove hazardous for a stock ZO6. I own both cars and can tell you that the Supercharger loves that sweet spot; not to mention the weight difference is now favoring the Mustang at that speed.
I would race the GT500 from the dig, or a slow roll. Feather the throttle and try not to spin the tires. You should be able to beat him if you stay cool and collected. Don't forget to shut the TC, which can instantly rob you of HP once a tire spins.
Best of luck!

I owned a Shelby with a 3.4 Whipple, supporting mods and suspension also. It made 730rwhp and the torque was to much for the street. I had the utmost confidence that my 570rwhp Z would of ate its lunch. Whatever race you do, make sure he is in 1st gear. He will blaze 1st so hard and then see you jumped out, then he will quick shift 2nd and blaze them some more. You will get out in front and he will not be able to catch you. Now, if you race from 60 or so, he will be in 3rd gear and will definately make a better race. But, once you cross 120mph you will walk away again. 60-120 would be a damn good race imo.

it will take alot for him not to burn-up first gear from a dig, first gear will will take him down if you keep you cool and run smart instead of hard otherwise it will be a smoke show and then becomes anyone race.
DK, about a rolling start if he knows his car he will most deff push for that.
oh! and do use all a big fave and video tape his demise to the mighty Z!
I would say good luck, but its more like good control!....

Definitely do not underestimate those cars. I've run a certain GT-500 several times, and still can't pass him. Last run we had together we were perfectly side by side. I was running ~520whp. But now supposedly he's added a few things because he's already talking smack despite my car getting upgraded to a Lethal Stage IV.
We shall see.

^not sure about that. Here's one with a ported blower around 630RWHP

Considering he's up against a car with another 30 RWHP let's assume 135MP trap capable....that's pretty in line for a cam only Z no?
Still think the Z will win 0-150 but like was said above. These "tanks" are pretty nasty with monster torque across the board. be safe and good luck!!

I've also owned a modded GT500. Unless hes added some wider tires or slicks...... GT500's and traction don't go together. Most are running around with 285 Goodyears on the rear sporting over 600 HP.
On the other hand.. the faster the dig.. the more advantage to Z06 has to weight and aero advantages.
Also, the GT500 esp. modded will take about 4X's the driver skill to keep in a straight line.
And it takes at least 100 rwhp more in a GT500 to have a chance.

Run him once, and shut down after a few seconds. Tell him you missed a gear, and immediatley run again. Heat soak his ***.
When my car was making ~540whp, it took another 100whp for an 03 Cobra to run with me from a roll. A dig is a whole other story though... first gear is just crazy long in the Z06.
