ZR1 crate engine installed in a Z06
If anyone is interested - now it's done, ZR1 engine in a Z06 car. Of course the big question will be WHY ?
Crate engine finaly delivered, DRM did a very good job finding a engine and the needed accessories quickly !
You need not only the engine you can see advertised at around $21000 in many places but you also need the complete accessory drive kit (all pulleys, belts etc), a A/C with 6 rib pulley, ZR1 clutch and slave cylinder, water intercooler, water pump (do not try to use the ZR1 water pump ... dont ask why ) all hoses to the intercooler water lines, power steering cooler, injectors (you can not use the ones that comes with the engine) the final cost is closer to $28000
DRM installed the accessory drive kit and clutch before they shipped it. Thanks
The customer car is a 2008 Z06 that had a QM600 cam, ARH headers and a Callaway Honker installed - 532rwhp.
The problem is that it's not emission legal so that is why he wanted something that is GM stock and passes the yearly emission tests.
Many probably asks themselves why not a A&A kit, twin turbo o similar ... the issue in our country is that it's not legal to put in any kind of power adder in the car (at least not visable at the test station ) All the standard supercharger and turbo kits is very visable but a ZR1 engine is more likely to pass the yearly test. We will take care of the only visable issue which is the text on top of the supercharger saying 'LS9 Supercharged' by installing a thin aluminum piece saying 'LS7 7.0' . Ridiculous - yes but what to do with stupid local laws
The owner did not want his license plate visable in the pictures so why not a Panama plate ...
Almost stock ...
The driveline taken down ...
The ZR1 engine installed ...
The difference between the stock Z06(on the left) and the ZR1 slave
Rick Dadd built this one ...
Car back together again ...
Now we had a lot of work fixing wiring harnesses, vacuum lines, water lines, modify the Callaway Honker intake (heat gun modifying ), installing the heat exchanger and water pump (now we are using a water pump from a Magnuson kit). Modifying the engine oil cooler etc.
And finished ...
We used a Magnuson style hood to clear the ZR1 engine ...
Now we are running a base modified tune in the car until the new engine have been running around 500 miles with nice and easy driving. After the 500miles it will go on the dyno to make the final tune. The engine is a completely stock, the only mods is external with ARH headers and a Callaway honker cold air intake so we will probably see stock numbers + around 30rwhp.
Dyno tune will be made next week and I will post some pictures here + a link to a video on youtube.

Nice Job! I guess we are lucky here, well at least in some states. California for one doesn't even allow long tube headers. Technically by federal EPA laws they are totally illegal, however there are many states that don't bother looking, California on the other hand does "look" and will not pass a car equipped with long tube headers. Plus they sniff the cars while many states do not by using a simple scan tool pass or no pass method. Hopefully that won't change in the near future.

Wow that's an awful lot of money just to pass yearly inspection. The owner needed some connections at the inspection station or throw around some hundreds, would be much cheaper. Nice job however.

Sweden is sure tough. My Vette friend in Sweden has to remove his supercharger each year, and this year, they made him cap his cutouts!
All that and a 6 month Corvette driving season....after making freinds with my him, I sure appreciate living in Florida where we don't even have any inspections at all!

Some serious Vettes at the spring dust off in Sweden this year! Beautiful cars. You Swedes are serious modders, and it's that much more impressive given all the hassles (and super high prices ) you all have to endure!,

Pretty sure California still has open borders still. Get the F*&^ out while you still can. California is as close to being a Stalinist style Communist ran state as you can get.
If you like cars that would be the last place on earth you would want to be. Not to mention the other Cali malfunctions.. High taxes, fire, earthquakes, high % of tree huggers,....
The county in my state has no inspections or emissions.

you swedes are very serious when it comes to modding. I know the swedes where the first to install a superchargeron the GEN 4 vipers ( 8.4) so thats something else.
