If you look at my sig, I have one of each Ford, Chevy, Dodge, have had more corvettes than anything, been here for 10 years, when I have my Viper in my Avitar Its assumed I'm a Viper guy, when the reality is that I am just a car guy. People who dont own both Viper or vette are easy to spot, they post magazine quotes and times. When I see people say Viper's cant handle, I laugh, some Gen 2 Vipers still hold records in handling(my 99 ACR handles better than my 06Z06, cant even compare it to the 01 Z06 I had), as well as the fact people forget the team Orca owned Road Racing for a decade, those Vipers hold a ton of world championships, the vettes started to win when dodge pulled out. People are delusional if they think that a stock C6Z is a drivers race with an 08 Viper, that is more gen 2-3 territory. People will believe what they want to believe, and to many people forget that most Viper owners had corvettes first. Regardless, its pointless to try and educate people, who see what they want to see, you cant even compare the power delivery of a corvette vs a Viper, they have such different powerbands, and most people dont realize that all Vipers come with 3.07 gears, and that was because of gas mileage. If anybody wants true unbias opinions on both cars(I have allot of seat time in the gen 3 and gen 4 Vipers as well, and finally got about 5 hours of seat time in a ZR1 last week) just PM me. One thing I can say that is 100% fact, is that Vipers (any year) are weekend toys, they are not made for long trips. The newer gens are much more forgiving, but still, for everyday driving, I would take a ZR1 all day long. My 06 Z is very comfy, but I was really impressed with the ZR1's ride, even the hardest setting. That being said when I want to drive aggressive I like to feel the road, that is something that all the C6's lack, they feel pretty numb when it comes to driver/car input. This is a direction that started with the C5,as we all know the C4 had a ton of driver/car input(I had an 85 Z51 coupe) but has gone a little to far. This is surely the reason why you see older folks driving them, I remember one of the C5's selling point was that one was to be able to fit 3 golf bags in the trunk. Regardless anyone who bashes either car is just clueless, both cars are great in their own way.

Good thing that both of those cars can support well over 1000hp on stock bottom ends. Seriously Supra's and Gen 2 96-99 vipers are some of the most durable motors ever built, and have posted some of the fastest times ever.

I will be as clear as I can be on this subject.

When you see all the fast ring times posted and claimed by manufacturers they are factory backed efforts. Meaning that say Chevy takes a zo6 to the track and does weeks of testing/tuning adjusting to make the car as fast as it can be on that track. Lately especialy Chevy is doing their best to ring what they can out of cars that they want to claim times for. They did this for c5 zo6, c6 zo6, ZR1, and a c6 z51.

Dodge on the other hand NEVER did this, on any viper. Even the 08 ACR ring tests were done in less than 1 day, not two weeks, not even a week, 4 total fast laps. That right only 4 laps, watch the video and see for your self how the car spends minutes bouncing of the limiter because the driver was not familiar enough with it to make it perfect. And on top of it all it was not a dodge effort, it was paid for by SRT with a very very limited budget hence the lack of ability to tune the car to max out the time.

The older vipers were never even given the chance to do this, they NEVER tested at the ring. The times you are quoting were done by an enthusiast like yourself or me in their own car, without the pro driver or several semi trucks full of equipment to make the car perfect.

Now you think that the viper cant handle because it didn't beat a car at a track that it never raced at.

Understand now?
They never-ever will understand.
I have owned both SRT-10 and 06 ZO6. My viper was just as fast as my ZO6. Never ever a problem with the car. Mods were done as always. Dodge ALWAYS fixed everything under the warranty no ?'s asked. Now with my ZO6 I cant even change the rotors to something, hell I cant change the tires-might void the dam warranty. 6000 miles on my ZO6. Clutch broke, roof falling off and GM is fighting me about fixing it. What a joke.

Now I do love my ZO6. But to say its better then my Viper was - wrong. I have owned both. They each have good and not so good things. Im not going by a 30 min test drive. Im not going by Car and Driver. I go by MY own REAL seat time!!! I love American muscle car I like them all. Im a true car guy. I have seen ALOT of fan boy alerts around here.....

Heres a picture of that gen2 Viper

This is the guy that owns the Viper in the video. I think he's pretty well known through out the corvette and viper community.

I took it to DC up in LA and had them tune it and put straight pipe on it with 3:55 gears, COMPLETELY different car. I picked up 40 rwhp and 52 rwtq and more under the curve. I cant tell you the difference the 3:55 GEARS make. It really is night and day. I raced two different Z's in a 2 year time period and beat them both (barely), dont know if they were modded though. The 03-06's have to have a gear change and tune. Out of all my cars that was by far my favorite. Being a mortgage broker I had to dump the car when the market went down. I actually went to trade in my lS3 for another one but couldnt get financing. So now I'm doing a forged motor and blower on my ls3. The Viper is just a special car period!!! You would have to own one to understand. For me, the Viper just had a special feeling to it that the Vette will never have. I know most die hard Vette guys cant comprehend this but for me its a fact. I'll keep my 750 rwhp Ls3 for a couple of years and then it's back to the Viper. If you've owned a modified one then you would understand, if you havent, then you wont! And yes, I still do love my Corvette. I've owned 9 all modded. If I had a choice today though, it would be a Viper
Well said.

I don't care for brand loyalty, I love both the Z and the Viper, but I gotta say I'm suprised the Viper is so much more reliable than a Z06. I know it's ignorant, but I hear Dodge and I immediately think 'un-reliable'. I'm not saying that I think the Z is reliable either, but I just think it's cool to hear so many good things from Viper owners. Hearing you as well as some others speak from personal experiance about the Viper is putting a lot of my fears to rest and making buying a Viper even more tempting. Very tempting indeed!

All Vipers are hand built and themake about 1000/ of them per year, corvettes all mass produced with every model going down the same line, I have personally seen 2 of my vetted go down the line, and have sometimes cringed when I saw some 50 year old overweight women putting my car together. Not to say they can't and don't do a good job, but I always invisioned a team of engineer like people on the line, check out the team that puts the viper together, very small facility but some serious people in their, that car is not a dodge to them it's their baby

I find it amazing that some of the posters here are comparing the 08 Viper to the C6Z06. Thats like saying the C6Z is faster than the ZR1. Boys lets get real here. The 08/09 Viper is in the same category with the ZR1.

I would have responded to your earlier post skeetdoody, but that would have validated that there was reason to respond...really there isn't.

I do have some experience with Vipers...don't like em for many reasons that we can go on and on about until the sun goes down but what's the point? I do respect them and appreciate them for what they are, just chose not to own one right now. If I were to buy a second toy, would it be a Viper?...ABSOLUTELY!!!

By the way as far as the fanboy non sense, I guess you can say I'm a fan of my country and I am very proud of that. I would certainly own any car from one of the big three as I always have. One day I would like to have one from each but until then my car of choice today is, hands down, a "Z06". I don't think it's a bad choice, do you???

The Viper is okay....but I always hated how clunky everything felt on the car, and the nasty sounding V10 tractor sounds is something I personally never enjoyed. Again it's a lot of brute power, but not defined at all like the Corvette is.

Here's some nice videos I liked regarding both cars:

And some useless fun drag videos for entertainment.

My favorite and hopefully unbiased comparison video is behind attached link.
At the end there is also a drag race which provides an idea of the difference in acceleration between both cars.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/H...Z06_159582.htm

When I bought my Z06 in 2006 the Viper was no match at that time and was also more expensive (I bought mine at list!). Now with the Viper 08 it looks completely different again and I would have a very close look at price and performance comparison again.

I love American Muscle Cars ! I'm a corvette nut, but love to add a viper or ford-gt in my garage.
Like one guy says : A vette is like a wife, you take good care of it
A viper is like a mistress, you take it out & show it off.

The Gen IV Viper is one mean beast - and while perhaps not as practical or refined as the Z06, it's quite the monster in any case. It may not be the refined DD that the Z is, but I'm going to be acquiring one in the next few weeks to add to the stable...can't wait! I just don't get the fanboy Viper haters at all. This is just another plus for the North American take-all muscle car manufacturers...
