Fixed My Rattling Oil Tank Today-Video & Pics
I took my 08Z to Memphis last weekend for my first PDX event, I had a good time and the car did GREAT! I reached 155mph one time on the straight away what a ride! But when I was almost home about an hour drive I noticed a rattling sound under the passenger side of the dash, scared me at first and then I realized it wasn't actually in time with engine rpms, just a rattle when revved the engine to 1500-2500 or so. Well I came inside and did a quick search on the forum here, others here have had this problem and GM has released a TSB on the problem of an O-Ring failing on a tube in the Oil Tank. So I ordered the O-ring and seals for the hoses last week. I made the repair today, I chose not to go to the dealer on this, I prefer to do my own repairs. This forum has provided so much info for me I thought I would try to give a little back. The whole job took about 2 1/2 hours start to finish including an oil change, pictures etc. I was really taking my time at that being very careful. This is my first attempt at posting something like this so I hope it turns out ok. I used my phone to record the noise in case someone wanted to hear what it sounded like, I closed the exhaust flaps so it would be more pronounced, the video is black @ first I had the phone under the dash so we could hear it better, the video is at the bottom.

thanks for the video... this proves that the noise i'm hearing is a rattle behind the radio and not the oil sump as many forum members automatically assumed. mine sounds like a bad exhaust leak consistent with engine rpm between 2200-4000rpm in 1st and 2nd gear and only happens about 10% of the time under moderate throttle.

Thanks for taking the time to post all that info. My '08 developed the noise a couple of weeks after I had it and the dealer kept it a couple of days to fix it and gave me a loaner in the mean time. That was six months ago and no problem since.
Because of the info on this forum, I was able to pinpoint the problem for the dealer and it made the whole process very easy.
