The CVN is a (4) four digit alpha/numerical amount (Base-16 / 0-9, A-F).
The are a few CVN's stored in the PCM.
Yes, if one parameter is changed the corresponding Checksum will change.
NO, if the original settings are restored, the original Checksum will also be restored.
There is NO "Flash Counter" programmed in the current software for the E38 PCM.

This thread makes me sick for anyone with a used Z06. At the end of the day, if GM wins out and denies any responsibility, I would have Jason build me a monster motor and slap in that car!!! Good Luck

The whole story is just sick, not everybody can go out tomorrow and get a 15k motor put in, or hell, spend 6k to fix it...
