Some of you already know that my engine blew up at an HPDE.
The guy in the subaru behind me was luckily running a video camera.
No persons (yours truly or instructors or other drivers hehe) were harmed. GM fixed the engine under warranty and I've already had the car back for a while, just was too lazy to post video. It truly is a one of a kind event caught on video and now I present it to you. Enjoy!
I'll make sure I get me a Viper the next time around. You probably have very low miles too right? Sorry to hear that. My Z06 is now the car that I use the least.
didnt you just buy this? what mods did you do to it and who did the work?
I bought the car in march and put 3300 miles on it when the engine gave out. I put about 1k miles on the new engine already. I'm planning on doing an LPE oil tank and calling it a day. The car was completely stock at the time of the failure. Currently I put on an intake and got michelin ps2 tires since all the tires were flatspotted from the skid, as I forgot to push in the clutch when the engine blew up....

I would had suit GM for what you went through. What a shame. I was sold when I got my Z06 and now I regret of buying it. It looks good and all that but the engine is having a high unreliable failure rate that I just can't justify.

I don't hear much from viper engines blowing up.
That's because they don't blow up.

I bought the car as "new" from a chevy dealer BUT it had 740 miles on it. What they did to the car in those miles I'll never know... but we can suspect the worst. They said some dude supposedly returned it or something but it was probably a demo car that was abused. I never over-revved the engine or anything like that personally. I do wanna say that the local chevy dealer did a super top notch job of fixing the car, as I bought the car out of state. They cleaned EVERYTHING and color matched the rear bumper perfectly.
I'm sorry about your old motor letting go but thank god you were ok!!! As far as hearing about alot of engine's letting go lately, yes this sucks to read but I'm sorry evo8 Mr...I'm not gonna start to become afraid to drive my Z!

OK, now its making a little more sense. I thought the car was bought brand new.
You don't even know if stock tune was in it then?
It looks like she was running a lil rich.
Seriously though, was a Carfax run on it?
A guy may actually have returned it after doing who knows what to it.
I agree with you, there may have been something brewing in it before you got it, and they could even have known about it when they sold it to you, and it finally decided to pop.
Personally, since one does not know what was done to it before you bought it, and whether or not they sold you a time bomb, which is what appears to have happened, I don't know if we can say with 100% that this car was never modified, or abused before you got it.
Really, who knows how bad it had been beaten on??? Someone could have overrevved it, put a crap tune in it and then took it out laterjust before getting rid of it , or who knows what, and then decided to get rid of it before it popped on them.
I don't think one can call this one bone stock, only "bone stock to the best of my knowledge".

It was a stock tune, that's the first thing they check!
I purposely kept the car stock because I heard of engine failures.
Also I dont want people to be afraid to drive their cars. These things happen, all mechanical things designed by humans will have some sort of a failure rate.

One more thing.
You say that you were in third gear, hit the rev limiter and instead of a pop for the fuel shutoff, you got a boom?
Is anyone else thinking that in this pre owned car........ that someone may have upped the rev limiter in it with a tune?
