Default 2008 ZO6 motor let go

On my way to my dealer for the ZR1 roof when about 12 miles from them the motor seized up. Running up the bridge at about 5500 rpm and boom. Pushed in the clutch and coasted down the other side of the bridge and pulled off. Had a flatbed tow for the last 12 miles. 12,300 miles on it totally stock. Let's see how long this process is for a new motor.

To anyone who had their engine replaced, how long did it take, was it a complete crate engine from Chevrolet or what. What to expect?

Tune (stock or ?)? Depends on several factors. From my experience, they will send out a GM engineer to inspect the damage, read the PCM, and take pics. He will make a determination of findings, forward to Powertrain, and they will decide what to do. Some have gotten it done in a couple of weeks, others have taken (much) longer. Usually a new motor (long block) if that is all that was damaged. Good luck .

No tune at all. Completely stock. I hope it is done in a timely manner.

I had my engine replaced in April. There were only 2 LS7's available in the US at that time, shipping took a little over two weeks to CA from the east coast. The dealer told me that the water pump is used off the old engine, other than that it is a direct replacement. One thing I didn't know was they remove the engine from the bottom.

Good luck.

She let go ON THROTTLE at 5500rpm's or OFF THROTTLE at 5500rpm's? Did you notice any drop in oil psi prior to the seize? High temps?

On the throttle, all temps looked fine. Did not get a look at the oil pressure when it happened.

The car is here under my care and it will be safe. Lonnies car is 100% stock in terms of powertrain. No tune, no cold air, no exhaust, 100% stock. We will be diving into it tomorrow. Car will not even turn over. I am sure he will keep everyone posted.

The dealer here in Texas took two months to get mine going again. All new internals, had a bad main bearing. That was in October.

i literally got the car back 14 days from when i blew my LS7, but since your in the west coast, you might get it back in 21 days. it was the complete long block for me, plus a new radiator, and a new dry sump. you should not have a problem if your car was 100% stock. hopefully the new motor your getting will be a freak, atleast mine was

At least it is in good hands. Since it is all stock it should be an easy deal.

Did it just quit or did it let go with noises and/or visable damage?

Let go with noise, nothing visual. No oil all over the ground. Oil on the bottom of the car though. Did not smell good.

Why? It's a machine. Machines break. There are tens of thousands of LS7s out there. The failure rate is a fraction of a percent.

it took about 10 days to get mine back. longest part was getting confirmation that the computer was stock.

they sent a completely new motor except for the valve covers for some reason......... seemed weird a the time.....
and they didnt replace the wires or coils.....used my originals.....

You wont have any problems..... just sucks not to have the car for a while.....

It smells like clutch under the hood. I think when it locked up, it was in too high of a gear to drag the back tires so it was slipping the clutch until you got it out of gear. There is no holes in the block and it didn't leave any oil on the ground where the tow truck dropped it off. We just pushed it in the shop and Scott is going to dive into it in the morning.

Stock rubber and brake pads? GM rep may take issue if not - and this is not trust me . . . If you have time and RichieRich is cool about it, you might want to swap if needed.
