Default Blown engine

Today on my way home from work between 4k - 5k in 2nd gear half throttle big bang with vibration lots of smoke no oil pressure. Pulled over to side of street. Called tow truck. Lots of metal parts on the street piston, block pieces, and a bent connecting rod. I had the car sent to a dealer. Car is a 2007 16,000 miles do they usually just put in a new engine in these cases or try to fix up what is left? Car is completely stock. If they are in there fixing it should I have a clutch put in? I got it back about a month ago because of broken rockers and they replaced them all.

With that much damage, I would expect a new engine. The real question is what caused it.

They probably won't choose to JB Weld the block and pistons together. You get a new motor!!!

I picked up most of the pieces maybe if they are really carefull they can make up a piston or at least patch the block with duct tape and the parts I gave them. The tow driver kept the rod for a prize.

This is becoming a weekly occurance. I think for the most part the culprits are the cast pistons/hollow stem exhaust valves.
Was the car modded?

You have a good attitude. I think they will replace the engine and you will be fine. Sounds like some rocker arm parts got cought up where they should not have been. A small piece of steel in the oil that blocks the pump or a main will cause what you had. It is a pain but you should be "OK" in a few weeks.

Date of build? Might be the rocker issue rearing it's ugly head again.

Build date is January 2007. Just had all the rocker arms replaced about one month ago my the local Chevy dealer as it was the third time in for broken rocker arms.

Man that sucks. 3x in for broken rockers sounds like there might have been that piece of metal floating around in the oiling system.

Ask to see the valve train when they pull the engine, you might be able to make a lemon law case and get a brand new car.

Since the op said he got it back from having the rockers changed, one would assume that one or more rockers lost their needles, which would cause a few "bad" things to happen later on if they get sucked through the oil pan, which is, by the sound of it, exactly what happened. The left over needles probably got sucked, and either blocked off the oil passages or were ground into fine metal which took the bearings out, and caused them to seize, and at 4-5k, that's never pretty!

Thank god you have a warranty to cover it. That would big bucks out of pocket. A new motor indeed sorry to hear.

Time to become an irate customer and get not only a new motor but the upgraded 09 resevoir. It is the least they should do after what you have been through with this car.

Well hold on now, was your '06 stock when it gave out? When did it fail?

5/29/08, which would have been "last year" as you say above, is that when she gave up the ghost???: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...post1565663547

But before that, 09/05/07 ????

Am I following the chronology correctly here? If it was modded 8 months before it popped, wouldn't it be fair to include that information in your above post?

I'm sure that some here are trying to get a feel for how well, or not, these engines hold up when stock.

Pardon me for asking bro, but in all fairness, is there really any wonder that she popped, on the way to the gas station, after the above?

I brought this up in previous post. We put the Z06 in a winning pedestal and we call it "supercar" but we should think twice. This forum is filled with owners that don't even race their cars and unfortunately have their engines destroyed.

The Z06 is a great and fast car but not as good as we claim. Things like this and the oil starvation issues are simply one of many Achilles tendon
