? What did he use, besides the painters tape I can see that. Is it a VERY poorly done 3M shield or what kind type of plastic wrap?

I believe he called it "shelf paper" of some type.

You don't need to put that stuff on:

Depends on what hits you...
Same event and session that Howie was in... this is from one impact. Had it hit the body, it would have taken a chunk of paint with it!

while you may protect the paint, you are not going to protect the windshield...

Try applying some WD40 to a soft cloth and that stuff should wipe right off. Works for me.
