Now we sound like drag racers
"Well the tires wouldn't hook so I got some drag radials...
...then I killed the clutch, so I got the tripple throwdown super clamp, then I busted the right side output shaft, so I put on the unobtainium super duty output shafts, then I split the diff wide open..."
And this is not the first time I've seen LG make this "mine is better than yours" type of post.
Fellas,
There are 18 pages of posts And I think I posted 5 or 6 times. There are many "ideas" that are trying to explain away the issue that the original poster experienced.
His car ran over a log and he pushed the Coil over shock through its mount.
I hardly think that a little ribbing (of which we at LG take our share) is cause for pointing the finger at me.
I gave logical explainations for what happened as did the other posters. this is in no way is saying that mine is better than yours is but in fact I pointed out exactly why we chose to make our upper mount the way we did.
If that is better, then so be it but that is the way we have been mounting the upper front shock mount for years now. And in addition, we thought out all of the implications of the shock body length and we chose what we did for body length for a reason. Again, if that says something then SO be it.
Look, the facts are the facts. We use Hyper coil springs for a reason. It has 1.5 less coils in the 8" spring than the competition's springs for the same spring rate. That is just a fact. But when a claim is made by the competitor that our spring will "bind up before the body" that is just not true, I can not and will not let a falsehood stand.
Ignorance of the details of my Coil Over package does not mean that it is the same as the "other guys" product. Because it is not the same. And since it is NOT the same, it will NOT react the same under the same circumstances. And if we believe that over the same log, our coil over would not have done the same thing then So be it. Because it would not have punched through the top mount.
So I appoligze for nothing.
And bring the log to me and we can video tape my car running over it 10 times, then we can look at the mount.
I never make claims without offering to back the claims up.
I am serious. Bring the log!
Thanks
Lou Gigliotti

I thought it was a block of wood...now the story has grown to a "log".. next thing you know it's going to be a frick'n tree
Are you drinking what I'm drinking Lou

Now, now, let's be fair to Lou. It's been described in these posts as anything from a 4x4 to an 8x8. It sure looked like a piece of 4x4 fence post to me in the picture.
Doesn't matter. What ever it is Bring it! Bring something the exact size of the "Twig" that he ran over to put his shock through his fender well and we will do the test.

Never ask the question unless you know the answer.

We may need some data on this piece of wood.
Is it a 4x4 6x6 8x8 Log?

I'm sure there are plenty of railroad ties in Texas. Just get one, set up the video camera, and run it over at 60 mph. No need to ship you anything. We await the video.

The victim said he was going 25-35 when he "rode the wood," so I would suggest to Lou that he hit the railroad tie at 35mph - remember, just rolling over it with the outer edge of the tire.

OK, Lou can run the RR tie over at 35mph. Should a RR tie not be available, just running one wheel up on a concrete curb at the 35mph will do just fine. I can't wait to see the video on YouTube tomorrow night.

Actually, it makes me sick to think someone would wreck a Corvette to prove a point as utterly absurd as this, but it is LG's money. Plenty of replacement cars on dealer lots, I suppose.
I can only imagine the next challenge: Andy of A&A corvettes drives Corvette over a cliff to prove that his framesavers will totally protect the front end of a car. Gar-an-teeeed.
Good luck, you have heard me say a million times: "1 test is worth a 100 analyses". May I suggest you to see if you can get a camera with high speed capability so if/when it fails we can see it in slow motion. A few accelerometers would be helpful as well, I am sure you have a data acquisition system available. If you want any help with the test plan (you really should write one first) publish it here and seek some opinions, alot of folks here have good ideas.

I will use the same plan that "Just J" used.
I will go 35mph and run over the block of wood. If you want to contribute to the test, then blow up the photo and tell me exactly the size of the wood.
I also plan on bolting the wood down to the concrete pavement so it won't fly up and hurt any other part on the car.
I will use the same camera set up that we use in the race car to document when nothing happens other than extreme movement. That way it will be documented when it doesn't fail with our Coil over package.
