I'm sure there are plenty of railroad ties in Texas. Just get one, set up the video camera, and run it over at 60 mph. No need to ship you anything. We await the video.

The victim said he was going 25-35 when he "rode the wood," so I would suggest to Lou that he hit the railroad tie at 35mph - remember, just rolling over it with the outer edge of the tire.

OK, Lou can run the RR tie over at 35mph. Should a RR tie not be available, just running one wheel up on a concrete curb at the 35mph will do just fine. I can't wait to see the video on YouTube tomorrow night.

Actually, it makes me sick to think someone would wreck a Corvette to prove a point as utterly absurd as this, but it is LG's money. Plenty of replacement cars on dealer lots, I suppose.

I can only imagine the next challenge: Andy of A&A corvettes drives Corvette over a cliff to prove that his framesavers will totally protect the front end of a car. Gar-an-teeeed.

This got a little out of hand, to say the least.

Hey Lou,

Make sure you remove the front bumper before you go over the log.

Exactly. I planned on removing the front bumper, RF fender and putting foam at the front edge of the door. Also an old wheel and tire.

This will take a bit of time but I do plan on doing it on film.

See what we do in the name of R&D for the Corvette community

Good luck, you have heard me say a million times: "1 test is worth a 100 analyses". May I suggest you to see if you can get a camera with high speed capability so if/when it fails we can see it in slow motion. A few accelerometers would be helpful as well, I am sure you have a data acquisition system available. If you want any help with the test plan (you really should write one first) publish it here and seek some opinions, alot of folks here have good ideas.

I will use the same plan that "Just J" used.

I will go 35mph and run over the block of wood. If you want to contribute to the test, then blow up the photo and tell me exactly the size of the wood.

I also plan on bolting the wood down to the concrete pavement so it won't fly up and hurt any other part on the car.

I will use the same camera set up that we use in the race car to document when nothing happens other than extreme movement. That way it will be documented when it doesn't fail with our Coil over package.

Now that is one test that will put this thread to rest.... except for the manufacturer dispute over the solid vs poly mount

Way to go LG

I really wanted to go with coil-over setup until i saw this thread. If LG setup go through this test without a failure i would defiantly buy it for the 09 Z06 I'm waiting for. Otherwise, i will stick with the Callaway setup.

Lou,
You have the same idea as me. Start running over logs in the road. I did a little research and the upper mounts can be bought. I was thinking taking a junker, and getting a handfull of mounts. Then building a test machine or sled.

But if you are willing to crash a 50K plus car. Please have at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never ask the question unless you know the answer.
It looks to be a pressure treated 8x8 typical of what is used by highway departments for backing behind galvanized steel highway railings.

I have great respect for any man who stands behind his product.

Lou, I nominate you for the Corvette Forum BIG BRASS BALLS award!

It is impossible to re-create the exact conditions experienced by Just J's accident. Who knows what that piece of wood did when it was hit, did it turn sideways, did it roll under the control arm and not the wheel, was there a casting flaw or a material flaw in mount on J's car? There are thousands of other variables in this situation that can change the outcome of a test.

It is also naive to think that any company would intentionally show their product breaking a car.

Point delivered and received. Although as a CONSUMER, I can't help but to give Lou credit if he's confident enough with his product that he's willing to take the risk of falling flat on his face or proving his point or his product could stand up to this. I understand that this test will not be EXACTLY the same as JustJ's accident, but it will give us more info/answers that we could use rather than all the questions we have now because of all the IF's scenario we've been making.

So if you're still up to it Lou? We all await the result of your test! Good luck

We're not scared

Remember, the worst we can be is "equal" because we know what happened in Just J's case and the best we can be is what i claim to be true.

And if it breaks, then LG Motorsports will know what to do to remedy the situation.

Trying to put the whole thing together as we speak.

Hey Lou, maybe you could sell tickets to the "Log Ride" event I'll come by and sell pizza by the slice, all the way from California
