Default C6 and Z06 absolute aerodynamic lift values (perhaps for FAQ update?)

In the Z06 faq:
SAE found:
Breakdown of lift reduction @ 300 kph

Total 138 kg
Splitter 92 kg 66.7 % of total
Front wheel opening leading edge extensions 10 kg 7.4 % of total
CHMSL spoiler 36 kg 25.9 % of total
Everett Ogilvie then said:
Your reference states that lift reduction is a total of 138 kg (304 lbs). I was not sure what car that 304 lb reduction was in relation to, until I read the Corvette Quarterly article - the 304 lb lift reduction is the reduction for the Z06 compared to the C6 standard coupe.
Assuming this is correct, we can find out the actual front and rear axle lift since the values for the base C6 are known, the Germans tested it at 200km/h: 54kg front axle and 28kg rear axle lift. (This was the Z51 version, I don't know if it has any changes to aerodynamics?)

Lift is a function of speed^2 so the situation at 200km/h can easily be calculated for 300km/h giving:

Base C6:
Front axle lift 200km/h: 54kg
Front axle lift 300km/h: 121.5kg
Rear axle lift 200km/h: 28kg
Rear axle lift 300km/h: 63kg

Thus:
Z06:
Front axle lift 200km/h: 9kg
Front axle lift 300km/h: 19.5kg
Rear axle lift 200km/h: 12kg
Rear axle lift 300km/h: 27kg

So not only is lift almost neglectible on the Z06, the balance has shifted, making the rear lighter as speed goes up as opposed to the base model where the front looses more weight at speed.

/Niels

(ps: assuming I didn't make calculation errors...)

Well, I see nothing sweet about having lift starting from 200 km/h

Here is the data published by Sport Auto (06/2007) from the aerodynamic tunnel test they have done on C6 Z06:

Air speed in tunnel 200 km/h
49 kg lift on the front axle
22 kg lift on the rear axle

Most other high performance cars generate down-force, not lift...
GM should do more work on this for the C7.

More downforce usually means higher drag. There is no free lunch...

I know that very well. But let me put it this way: the car should generate a small down-force over 200 km/h. Having lift is not acceptable IMHO.
There are cars that have a lower aerodynamic coefficient (less drag) while still generating down-force, for example Porsche 997 GT2. Sure enough the price of that car allowed for more wind tunnel testing.

Aha! Thanks for that! Now guess what this means.. That whole ''lift reduction'' thing mentioned in the Z06 faq doesn't mean relative to a base C6, its absolute.. for the entire car! ''Lift reduction'' followed by the bits that they stuck to the car that are the main cause of the lift (.. reduction.. ) The differences did almost seem too great already..

When you take the values from the Z06 FAQ (from an SAE document aparantly) and downsize them to 200km/h, you'd get

Code:
Z06:
200 km/h
Front axle lift SAE: 45 kg
Front axle lift Sport Auto: 49 kg
Rear axle lift SAE: 16 kg
Rear axle lift Sport Auto: 22 kg
SAE total: 61 kg
Sport Auto total: 67 kg
And a bit faster:

Code:
Z06:
300 km/h
Front axle lift SAE: 102 kg
Front axle lift Sport Auto: 110 kg
Rear axle lift SAE: 36 kg
Rear axle lift Sport Auto: 49 kg
SAE total: 138 kg
Sport Auto total: 159 kg
Clearly these results are much closer. The 'Sport Auto' numbers seemed to have helped to finally interpret those ''lift reduction'' things mentioned earlier.. Give or take a few kg, the two sources sort of agree now then.
