Default Complete Z06 brake upgrade options offered by RacingBrake

RacingBrake is relatively new to Corvette community, although we have been building performance brake kits for EVO, STi/WRX, 350Z/G35, NSX, RX8, SRT4, BMW, and now RX7. We started getting involved with the two piece rotor development for Z06 & Z51 in February 06 from designing, tooling, testing, to product release in September 06. Here is the history of two piece rotor development:
http://forums.racingbrake.com/viewtopic.php?t=79

After customers have installed our two piece rotors and been impressed with the outstanding performance, they asked us to further develop a complete brake kit. However, we believe the stock brake system has its good value to be preserved except some improvements need to be addressed. Here are some solutions that we have come up that we believe would fit all Corvette owners with different level of requirement in upgrading their brakes.

A. Retaining OE calipers:
  1. Upgrade stock pads to Hawk (Street / Motorsports) or RB brake pads

Stock Pads - Z06 owners seem to have complained that there is limited aftermarket pads available and the cost of replacement is too expensive. We worked with Hawk to make racing compound available in addition to the street compound. We noticed that Carbotech is also very popular, however for some serious racers their XP pads do not hold up well (brake deposit) against those true racing pads such as Raybestos (ST series), Hawk (DTC series), or Pagid.

In response RacingBrake is tooling up to make this brake pad (PD1185) with thicker friction material (15% more) backing plate thickness=4.5mm, for both street and track duty and they will be cost effective (Available end of February or early March 07).

    RB brake pads updated 1/31/07.

Various brake pads fit under OE caliper:

OE fitment (left) vs RB fitment (right)

    RB brake pads updated 2/16/07.

Click here for Z06 brake pad availability

  2. Replace pad bolts with RB's specially designed EZ bolts

    Problem:

    Solution:
Replace stock with RB's EZ bolt that will allow you to use a standard M10 socket wrench which will make pad replacement simple and easy. (ETA March 2007)

    EZ Bolt updated 2/16/07.

This brake pad EZ bolt is designed and made exclusively by RacingBrake to replace the bolts that come with the original caliper and tend to bind to the caliper and break.

RB EZ bolts are made of high strength alloyed steel and heat-treated to class 9.8; the surface is coated with cold zinc using dacrotized process which is about 2-3 times more corrosion resistant than conventional plating. This is the same coating we used for our two piece rotors fasteners.

The standard M10 hex head makes it very easy to change the pads with only a few turns. The sleeve is of stainless steel material and provides the proper tension to hold the pads in place without excessive pad movement (play) like OE.

You would need 16 bolts (8 per caliper) for front and 12 bolts (6 per caliper) for rear.

RacingBrake EZ bolts are sold in car set quantity of 28 bolts per car.

These Z06 EZ bolts are now stocked and ready for order and shipping:
    http://www.racingbrake.com/Z06_Brake_Pad_EZ_Bolt_p/z06-53.htm

  3. Brake Rotor Upgrade

    Problem:
Stock rotors are curved vane but are made from the same tooling (left or drivers side only) instead of left & right, which makes the cooling on right hand side worse than a straight vane rotor - unbalanced heat load.

    Solution:
Upgrade stock one piece to RB two piece rotors (ready to ship).

Why should I upgrade to two-piece rotor?
    http://www.racingbrake.com/main/two_...or_upgrade.asp

    • Weight Savings: (front stock rotor weighs beyond what the electronic scale can handle).

RB rear two piece rotors use the iron hat as OE instead of aluminum hat like competition.

Learn how RB two piece rotors are built differently from others:
    http://www.racingbrake.com/main/two-...r_assembly.asp

See the review and discussion about RB two piece rotors:
    http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1549721

  4. Upgrade stock brake lines to RB stainless steel brake lines

B. Stock Caliper Upgrade: (Available March 2007)

Replacing stock calipers with RB's lightweight yet track duty truly high performance aluminum calipers using single piece brake pads (see above). These calipers are specifically designed for track racing purpose and the pistons are sized to have the same F/R brake ratio as stock with differential bores.

For those who are upgrading from stock to RB caliper brake kit, the following brake pads will be used which are non FMSI standard pads, but are very popular in the racing industry:

RB 6-pot Front Brake Kit

Available from Hawk (HB122), AP (CP3894D51), Pagid (1852), Raybestos, and PFC etc. with various compounds.

RB 4-pot Rear Brake Kit

Available from Hawk (HB110), AP (CP2279D50), Pagid (1361), Raybestos, and PFC etc. with various compounds.

These upgrades can be implemented on a progressive basis with incremental investment. Our brake kits use two piece stock rotors (14” front and 13.4” rear), so your purchase of RB two piece rotors can be used for next level of complete brake kits upgrade, all you need is to add the calipers and adaptors. You maintain the freedom of choice in your brake upgrades at the pace of your need and budget.

RacingBrake Corvette brake kits are engineered and built around OE configuration, i.e. with iron hat on rear drum brake and require no wheel spacer, no need to modify the lower ball joint to install.

RB brake products are backed by our money back satisfaction guarantee for the performance, price (initial and replacement cost) and look.

More detail on calipers to follow.
Caliper status updated 4/10/07

See the status of the caliper upgraded kit in the following thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1673567

Any comment or feedback will be appreciated.

how does e brake work? Drum material is? I see a picture of a rotor with 25 hours on it in the other thread. What is the warranty or what will mine look like in 25 hours? I have 600 miles on my 2 piece rotors now and they are heat checked fairly well. That is far from 25 hours possibly less than 7 hours at 90 MPH average.

I bought a set of the front rotors and 70 pads to try out at Spring Mountain at the end of the month. I'll take some pictures before and after the weekend's festivities! For a little over $1100 (rotor, pads, SS lines & shipping) thought I'd try them out

I'm eager to get a set of Hardbar's rotors and PF calipers as well as soon as there are some street pads available for that set up.

AZ FASTEST,

I'll be there as well. I'd like to take the opportunity to chat w/you regarding those brake upgrades you made. I've been considering them for a while now but I always like to someone who actually has one before I dive in myself. Hope to see you and talk to you at the track.

I've done alot of checking and talked to several guys running RB rotors and some running calipers. And they all have nothing but the great comments about there products. I am going to give there system a try. Anyone interested, I will be happy to keep you updated as to how they preform. They also have some very interesting patents on their rotors. One of the major points the the guys running the rotors made was that rotors longivity compared to others they have run was far superior. JD

Default Wow!

I installed the rotors, Hawk 70 pads, stainless lines, and the Motul 600 fluid.

It's been raining here and actually snowed in Scottsdale this afternoon!! (Something about Barrett-Jackson that brings out the bad weather!)

Anyway, it dried up enough for a few hours on Saturday to break in the brakes and they are unbelievable to me. Pedal feel is firm and the grip is sensational!

I'm really looking forward to the Corvette track days next weekend and am praying that the weather clears up.

Pictures and results to follow!

In response to the questions and suggestions we have received in the past two weeks since our brake solutions were released, we like to provide some updates:

1. The Hawk pads:
We just received our restock orders from Hawk. We carry both Street (HPS, HP+ and Ceramic) and Track (DTC-60 and DTC-70) compounds to ensure they are always available.

2. The RB brake pads:
We shall receive the proto type pads early next week for production approval when we will post more details.

3. Brake Pad Bolt:
Some customers indicated that they simply detach the calipers as they replace the pads w/o having to remove the bolts so the stock bolt doesn’t bother them much. However as we experimented this procedure we found out all these pads will fall into floor randomly and quicker than you can react. Furthermore we all know it’s not the right way to replace the pads because the calipers & brake lines should remain undisturbed as possible.

Our E-Z bolts are designed and made to serve its purpose – Allowing quick change (about 5 turns) of brake pads w/o detaching the calipers.

We expect to approve the samples in about 2 weeks and more update will follow.

4. Brake rotors:
Customers ask us if other finishes than slotted only (especially open slot design) would be available, the answer is YES. We are waiting for shipment to come in then we will announce the availability.

Click here to see a detail view and updated information

5. Calipers:
Customers are anxious to find out when would they become available and our answer is still March. It takes time to retool our 6 pot caliper and 4 pot calipers in order to match the stock brake balance including caliper bore sizes. We can assure you that the wait shall be well rewarded as our calipers have the exact mounting offsets like stock which will allow you to run OE or NAPA’s low cost aftermarket rotors if available in addition to our two piece rotors. And the brake pads are available from any major brake pad manufacturers with plenty of choices in compounds.

Group Purchase:

As of now we don’t have any authorized dealers for our Corvette products and we invite anyone who would like to organize a group buy. The group organizer will be prime contact and the group members will receive discounted price.

1. Minimum 5 people
2. Minimum purchase of one set of two-piece rotors
3. All orders must be received and processed within 1 week
4. Member discount: 5 people get 5% and 10 people get 10% in addition to our current promotion of 20% discount on accessories with purchase of the rotors
5. Group organizers will receive $200.00 RB store certificate

Please contact us for further information and any suggestions, info@racingbrake.com.

As I mentioned earlier, I have decided to go with RB. I had hoped to have them on by now but I had a problem with my Knee and have not been able to get them installed yet. Here are some pictures of the parts and they do look really nice. I went with SS lines, DTC70 pads in front and DTC60 rear, along with the RB 2 Pc Rotors front and rear. I will let you know more after I have had a chance to run them. JD

Not much discount for a GP. I'm looking to save about $100 on a set of rotors.

For only 5% off, I'd rather wait for your upcoming heavier duty version to be released with the open slots.

Hey mate i take it the seccond set of caliper's youv'e posted are your own brand, what will your 6 piston front's and 4 piston rear's sell for. Also what will be the max size & thickness rotor that can be run in these caliper's.

Also how will these compare to say a brembo 6 & 4 piston setup.
