Z06 IS driving down Viper prices!
Yep...actually had a couple Viper Dealers actually blame the "hot new Z06" for their slumping Viper sales. I like both cars (please don't turn this into a Vette vs. Viper war ad nauseum) and I have been monitoring the market for each.
Seems like the 2005 Viper SRT's can be had for the $70 - $75k range right now. The Dodge dealers are still trying to get $90k+ for the new 2006 Hardtop Coupe, but they are just sitting on their lots. I saw an E-Bay "Buy It Now" for $79k go unanswered on a brand new '06 Viper Coupe. There are plenty of ads showing pics of Vipers sitting on dealer lots with snow all around them.
With the current Chevy dealer-gouge of anywhere from $5k to $30k+, the Viper can now be had for LESS THAN a Z06!
Hmmmm....maybe I will get one and be one of those Viper Trolls here.

Doesn't surprise me at all. By an objective measure, the Vette has the Viper covered at the moment and for 20K less. Thus the only reason I see someone buying a Viper is just because that is what they want and the money doesn't matter. The Vipers on the local Dodge dealers lot sit. And sit, and sit, and sit....

They were going down before the Z06 came out (c6 model). The SRT verts were going for the low 60's for 03-04s with low miles. I got the coupe for sticker, not caring about loses or depreciation. You can find 03-04 srts for high 50s now, which is a awesome car for that price, regardless of the z06. very few people shopping for vipers are looking at Z06s

I'd really like to also have a Viper coupe in my garage, especially at a huge discount, however I also would like to keep my wife and I don't think I could add the Viper and keep the wife, especially after building the new garage this year.
Besides the master plan is currently to add the GT500 Shelby in '07 (I'll let the dealers hose everyone on the car for a year) and then trade this C6-Z for the 600 HP blown version in 08.

i'd like to have the new GTS coupe, too.
i would not probably buy one new, though, as i personally think that they are overpriced for what it is. nothing earth shattering technology-wise, you're just paying the price for low volume.

The prices started dropping quite a while ago and justifiably so given the hype on the the new Z. It is an unbeatable everyday driver which the Viper is not. However, if they could get rid on the cabin heat on the Viper. I would definitely be interested with today's pricing. They are both great cars. And right now, the Viper convertible does not have a competing model from the Vette (unmodified) I agree with the post about it being a great time for performance car lovers. An area where I don't think the Z gets enough credit, although some, is with its mileage. My 02 can easily tick off 26 -27 highway. The 06 gets a lot less (about 21) but this is because it is new and I just can't stop playing with the throttle!!!

[QUOTE=vette6799]Not at all. It was not overpriced until the market changed when the Z06 was introduced. Every commodity, and that's what these cars are, are a function of supply and demand.[/QUOTE
Over Priced.....................they would not take a loss on this car.................unless they are stupid...............I don't think they are stupid............just over priced............... And the supply and demand thing.........there are still 04's you can get.........

I bought a new '04 Viper in June for little more that a regular C6 convertible. I like that it is a simpler, less electronics laden car with (at that time) 7/70 powertrain warranty. Since GM did not appear to be offering a 500 HP convertible anytime soon there was no reason for me to wait. I test drove a new C6 and while it is a great car, it is not significantly hotter than my '69 (although they do get 2 and a half times the gas mileage!!).
I DO agree that the Z06 is depressing Viper prices - and that doesn't bother me one bit. The Z06 is hotter as well, but the Viper is hot enough for me.
I still have the '61 and '69 Corvette convertibles and still drive them as much as possible (1,000 to 5,000 miles a year). I will NEVER sell either as long as I am physically able to drive them and keep my family and myself fed!!

The Viper can be had CHEAPER than the Z06 NOW.
$20K less @ MSRP doesn't mean squat right NOW!

On the Z06 the dealers are cashing in, not GM. If the market has customers that are willing to pay premiums over MSRP, power to the dealers. However that "extra" profit does not go towards making better future products as should be the case for DC with the Viper. I'd rather see the manufactures get that market based extra value to encourage even better future products.
I don't think that the Z06 would have been built if it weren't for competition, principly from GM/Chevy's drive to top the Viper.

I do love the look of the Viper, not as much as my new Z but still cool looking car.
I drove the Viper a few times when looking and waiting on my Z. I actually consider sayin F--K it and buying the Viper because I got so frustrated waiting on the ZO6. I coulod have got a Vert or Coupe for close to the Z or even less in the Vert Vipers case. Not sure why probably just wanted to move it. Had about 300 miles so maybe demo..
Either way....
I realize now that I have my ZO6 that it would have been a HUGH mistake, in my opinion..
The Z is just a better car plus I would say it is faster or atleast thats the way it felt to me..
My 2 Cents...
