M5 vs. Z06
This thread : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...01&forum_id=26
got me thinking. The new M5 will be at $82K - which is gonna be what ~ $10K more than a loaded Z06. M5 comes with no options - the dual screen sat nav and all the gadgets are standard, so it is fair comparison. Plus you get longer warranty, better service and possibly much better resale!
So people who complain about Chevy service and interior should check this car out. The V10 + 7sp SMG should be a sweet powertrain.And no issues with steering wheel either!

Well, they have 500+ hp and pretty close in price (~10%).

But on the track - there will be no comparison.
But that dual screen sat-nav in M5 is very sweet (saw it on 645 car)

NOT disagreeing that the M5 is a fine automobile, just want to point out what I think is an error in your "price" comparison with the ZO6.
When I get the call from Monica, the fully loaded ZO6 I plan on ordering (2LZ, R8C, U3U, QL9) + $800 shipping + an estimated (10%) for tax/license/registration) figures out to be right at $80,093.
According to the article you referred to about the M5, the BASE PRICE with unknown options was estimated to be $82,000.
I'm guessing with the most desired options, you can add an easy $15K on top of that....
WHOOPS.......just re-read you thread, so it already comes loaded with "all the toys"..
Not a bad deal if, ...... you're a BMW fan!!

M5 = $82,000 base price estimated
8,200 tax/license/registration
800 shipping (just a guess)
TOTAL $91,000
ZO6 = $65,000 base price
6,295 Options 2LZ, R8C, U3U, QL9
7,208 tax/license/registration
800 shipping
TOTAL $79,293.50

Most M5 buyers will have a sports car , too, like a Z06 , Porsche Turbo or Ferrari F430. The M5 would be their 500 hp 8250 rpm V10 7 speed sequential manual head up display selectable suspension firmness, selectable shift mode with Launch Control , selectable power level , selectable yaw threshold , 4 door 5 seat daily driver go to work sedan ! So they are complimantary , not competing.

Man, I wish I were among these M5 buyers.

How can anyone seriously compare these cars?
If just for fun, ok, I can understand.
Z06 will totally blow M5 away in every performance category.
M5 will totally blow Z06 away in every comfort and luxury and practicality category.
WOW! Big surprise!!!

A more appropriate comparison would be between the Cadillac STS and the M5, both of which are high performance sedans.

i will give you a link to M5board.com where some of the rich european folks rented an airfield and got gallardos, M5s, 911 TT, E55 and many more cars and found that the M5 was kicking butt of all of them including the gallardo..

I like how you think the ZO6 will blow the M5 away. See how far ahead you can get in traffic where you will be driving your car 95% of the time. The M5 driver will be drinking a Starbucks Latte and clicking through the gears listening to foreigner on his Logic 7 system wrapped in premium Nappa leather on the heated/ventilated seats. I agree you buy them for two different reasons, but .5 sec doesn't add up to much in daily driving conditions. I think the M5 will be 85-86K before TTL, thats quite a bit more money too.
